Paper Jam Error (E4)expand_more
Open the cartridge access door and check for jammed paper in the print carriage area. Remove any paper or foreign objects gently. Check the input tray, output tray, and the cleanout door on the bottom of the printer for additional jams. After clearing all jam areas, close doors securely and press the Resume button to continue printing. Load paper following the correct orientation guidelines to prevent future jams.
Cartridge Not Detected or Errorexpand_more
Verify that the protective plastic tape has been completely removed from both cartridges. Open the cartridge access door and remove the cartridge indicated in the error message. Clean the gold-colored electrical contacts on both the cartridge and the printer with a dry, lint-free cloth. Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place. If the error persists, try cleaning the contacts a second time or consider replacing the cartridge with a new HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridge.
Printer Not Printingexpand_more
Ensure the printer is powered on and paper is loaded in the input tray. Check for error messages on the control panel display. If using a USB connection, disconnect and reconnect the cable. For wireless printing, verify the printer is connected to your network by checking the Wireless light. Clear any print queues on your computer through Devices and Printers (Windows) or Printers & Scanners (Mac). Restart the print spooler service if necessary, then attempt to print again.
Poor Print Quality or Faded Colorsexpand_more
Check ink levels on the control panel display. If low, consider replacing the cartridges. Verify you are using original HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges, as third-party cartridges may cause quality issues. Run the alignment tool from the printer software by selecting 'Align Cartridges' in the toolbox. Print a diagnostic page to identify any missing color bands. If defects are visible, clean the cartridges using the 'Clean Cartridges' option in the printer software. Ensure you are using quality HP paper or ColorLok-certified paper for optimal results.
Wireless Connection Issuesexpand_more
Press the Wireless button and Information button simultaneously to print the Wireless Network Test Report, which provides diagnostic information. Ensure your Wi-Fi router is powered on and the printer is within signal range. Move the printer closer to your router if needed. Verify the printer is on the correct network by checking the control panel display. If the wireless capability is disabled, press the Wireless button and Resume button together for three seconds to re-enable. Restart both the printer and your router if connection issues persist.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Always turn off the printer using the Power button and allow it to cool before performing maintenance to protect cartridges and internal components.
  • Keep cartridges in their original protective packaging until ready for installation to prevent ink evaporation and nozzle clogs.
  • Clean cartridge contacts with a lint-free cloth if error messages appear; do not touch the print nozzles or ink chambers.
  • Replace cartridges promptly when print quality becomes unacceptable rather than waiting for complete depletion to maintain consistent output quality.
