Unbox and Power On

Remove all packaging materials and tape from the printer, including from the cartridge access area. Connect the power cord to the rear of the HP DeskJet 2622 and press the Power button to turn the printer on. Wait for the printer to complete its initialization sequence before proceeding.

2

Install Ink Cartridges

Open the cartridge access door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center. Remove the HP 65 tri-color and black cartridges from their packaging, peel off the plastic tape using the pull tab, and slide each cartridge into its matching color-coded slot at a slight upward angle until it clicks into place. Close the cartridge access door to begin.

3

Load Paper and Connect Wirelessly

Raise the input tray, slide the paper-width guide to the left, and insert a stack of plain paper print-side up until it stops. Then install the HP printer software on your Windows or Mac computer, or download the HP Smart app from 123.hp.com, and follow the on-screen instructions to connect the 2622 to your Wi-Fi network.

4

Print a Test Page and Align Cartridges

Once connected, print a test page from the HP printer software by navigating to Print & Scan and selecting 'Maintain Your Printer.' Use the Device Services tab to align the cartridges, which prints an alignment page — follow the on-screen instructions to complete alignment for best print quality.

HP Auto Wireless Connect

Use the HP printer software or HP Smart app to automatically connect the DeskJet 2622 to your home Wi-Fi network. Wi-Fi Direct

Print directly from a smartphone or tablet without a router using Wi-Fi Direct. Press and hold the Wireless button and Resume button together for three seconds to enable Wi-Fi Direct — the Wi-Fi Direct icon on the control panel display will illuminate. Connect up to five devices simultaneously, then search for the printer's Wi-Fi Direct name from your mobile device's Wi-Fi settings.

Paper Jam — How to Clearexpand_more
First press the Cancel button to attempt an automatic jam clear. If unsuccessful, remove all paper from the input tray and use a flashlight to check for obstructions. Clear jams from the input tray, then the output tray, then the cartridge access area (turn the printer off and unplug before reaching inside), and finally check the cleanout door on the bottom of the printer. After clearing all jams, reload paper and press Resume to continue printing.
Cartridge Not Recognized or Ink Errorexpand_more
If the Ink Alert light is on and an Ink Level icon is blinking, a cartridge may be missing, improperly installed, or still have plastic tape on the contacts. Open the cartridge access door, remove the affected HP 65 cartridge, confirm the pull-tab tape has been fully removed, and firmly reinsert it until it clicks. If the error persists, clean the gold-colored electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a dry lint-free cloth, then reinstall.
Printer Won't Print or Is Offline (Windows)expand_more
Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click the HP DeskJet 2622, and confirm 'Use Printer Offline' and 'Pause Printing' are unchecked. Verify the printer is set as the default printer (look for the green check mark). If the issue continues, restart the Print Spooler service via Windows Administrative Tools > Services, clear the print queue by selecting 'Cancel all documents,' and then restart your computer. The HP Print and Scan Doctor utility can also diagnose and fix issues automatically.
Poor Print Quality or Streaky Outputexpand_more
Open the HP printer software, go to Print & Scan > Maintain Your Printer, and use the Device Services tab to first align the cartridges, then print a diagnostics page to inspect color blocks. If blocks show white lines, fading, or missing sections, click 'Clean Cartridges' on the Device Services tab and follow prompts. Use only genuine HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges and HP-recommended paper such as ColorLok-certified stock for best results. Check that the correct paper type and print quality settings are selected in the print dialog.
Control Panel Error Codes (E1–E6)expand_more
The DeskJet 2622 displays error codes as the letter E followed by a number on the control panel. E1 means paper width mismatch — reload correct paper or change print settings. E2 means paper length mismatch — press Resume to continue or Cancel to stop. E3 means the print carriage has stalled — open the cartridge access door, clear any obstruction, and press Resume. E4 indicates a paper jam — clear all jammed paper and press Resume. E5 means the scanner has failed — turn the printer off and on again. E6 is a general error — unplug the power cord for one minute, then reconnect and power on.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Always turn the HP DeskJet 2622 off using the Power button and wait for the light to go out before unplugging — this prevents the HP 65 cartridge nozzles from drying out and clogging.
  • Check estimated ink levels regularly via the Ink Level icons on the control panel display or through the HP printer software under the 'Estimated Levels' tab, and keep a replacement HP 65XL cartridge on hand to avoid printing delays.
  • Do not open or remove cartridge tape until you are ready to install — keeping the tape on reduces ink evaporation and extends cartridge shelf life.
  • Run the cartridge alignment and cleaning routines from the HP printer software (Print & Scan > Maintain Your Printer) whenever you replace an HP 65 cartridge or notice a decline in print quality.
