HP DeskJet 2600 Manual — Setup, Troubleshooting & WiFi Guide
The HP DeskJet 2600 is a compact all-in-one inkjet printer offering print, scan, and copy functionality with wireless connectivity for home and small office use. It features a simple control panel with one-touch copy buttons and Wi-Fi Direct support for cable-free printing. This page covers full setup instructions, cartridge maintenance, troubleshooting, and specifications drawn directly from the official HP manual.
Product Setup
Load Paper into the Input Tray
Raise the input tray and slide the paper-width guide to the left. Insert a stack of paper with the short edge down and print side up, then slide it down until it stops. Adjust the paper-width guide snugly against the paper edge and lower the output tray, pulling out the tray extender.
Install the Ink Cartridges
Open the cartridge access door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center. Remove each HP 65 cartridge from its packaging, peel off the plastic tape using the pull tab, and slide each cartridge into the correct slot at a slight upward angle until it clicks into place. Close the cartridge access door when done.
Install the HP Printer Software
On Windows, open the HP printer software by double-clicking the printer icon on your desktop or navigating through the Start menu. On Windows 10, click Start, select HP from the app list, and choose the icon with the printer name. Alternatively, install the HP Smart app from 123.hp.com on iOS, Android, or Windows 10 devices.
Connect to Your Wireless Network
Press the Wireless button on the control panel to enable wireless capability — the Wireless light will turn on when connected. Use the HP printer software or HP Smart app to complete the wireless setup. You can verify the connection by pressing the Wireless button and Information button simultaneously to print a Wireless Network Test Report.
Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.
WiFi Connection Guide
Wireless Network (WPA/WPS)
Connect the HP DeskJet 2600 to your home or office wireless network via the Wireless button on the control panel. For WPS setup, press and hold the Wireless button and Resume button together for three seconds. Once connected, the Wireless light and Signal Bars icon on the display will remain solid. Print a Wireless Network Test Report anytime by pressing the Wireless and Information buttons simultaneously.
Wi-Fi Direct (Device-to-Printer)
Wi-Fi Direct allows mobile devices to connect directly to the HP DeskJet 2600 without a wireless router. Enable it by pressing and holding the Wireless button and Resume button together for three seconds until the Wi-Fi Direct icon appears on the display. Up to five devices can connect simultaneously. Print the Wi-Fi Direct Guide by pressing the Information button and Resume button at the same time.

Important Safety Instructions
- Always turn off the HP DeskJet 2600 using the Power button and wait for the Power light to go out before unplugging — this prevents cartridge nozzles from drying out and clogging.
- Do not open or remove the tape from HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges until you are ready to install them, as exposure causes ink evaporation and reduces cartridge life.
- If a cartridge is removed from the printer for any reason, reinstall it as soon as possible — cartridges left unprotected outside the printer for more than 30 minutes risk dried-out nozzles.
- Regularly align cartridges via the printer software (Print & Scan > Maintain Your Printer > Align Cartridges) and run a diagnostics page to catch print quality issues early before they worsen.
