HP DeskJet 2755e WiFi Setup: Connect to Your Network in 5 Minutes
Just unboxed your DeskJet 2755e and stuck at the WiFi step? You are one setup mode and a few taps away from your first wireless print. This guide walks you through the two ways to connect — the HP Smart app (recommended) and the button-free WPS PIN method — plus the fixes for the one setting that fails most setups.
boltQuick Answer
Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button together for 3 seconds to put your DeskJet 2755e in Wi-Fi setup mode, then open the HP Smart app and add the printer. Connect it to your 2.4 GHz network — the 2755e does not support 5 GHz, and picking the wrong band is the #1 reason setup fails.
Note: the DeskJet 2755e is an HP+ printer — it needs an HP account, an active internet connection, and original HP 67/67XL cartridges to finish setup.
Before You Start: What You Need
Your Wi-Fi network name and password
Have your 2.4 GHz network name (SSID) and password ready. Most routers broadcast two names that look alike — something like MyHome and MyHome-5G. You want the plain one, or the one your router labels 2.4G. The DeskJet 2755e only supports 2.4 GHz, so choosing the 5 GHz name will silently fail — this is the single most common setup mistake we see.
If your router merges both bands under one name, you may need to temporarily separate them in your router settings, or move the printer within a few metres of the router during setup so it locks onto the 2.4 GHz signal.
A phone, tablet, or computer on the same network
Your phone or computer must be on the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to join. If you are setting up from a phone or tablet, turn on Bluetooth — the HP Smart app uses it to discover the printer automatically, which saves a lot of tapping.
The HP Smart app
Download HP Smart for free from 123.hp.com on iOS, Android, Windows, or Mac. This is the recommended setup path — it walks you through discovery, network selection, and the HP+ sign-in in one guided flow. If you prefer not to install an app, Method 2 below (WPS PIN) connects the printer with no software at all.
An HP account (for the 2755e’s HP+ setup)
The 2755e is an HP+ model, which means setup asks you to sign in with an HP account and keep the printer connected to the internet. It also requires original HP 67 or HP 67XL cartridges — refilled or third-party cartridges are rejected during HP+ setup. If setup stalls at the account step, that is why.
Method 1: Connect with the HP Smart App (Recommended)
Put the printer in Wi-Fi setup mode
On a brand-new printer, setup mode starts automatically — you will see a blinking blue light next to the Wireless button and cycling signal bars on the display. If the printer has been used before, press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button together for 3 seconds to re-enter setup mode.
The blinking wireless light is your confirmation: the printer is now discoverable and waiting for a network.
Open HP Smart and add the printer
Open the HP Smart app and tap or click the plus (+) icon. The app should find your DeskJet 2755e automatically — on phones, Bluetooth being on makes this near-instant. Select the printer when it appears.
If the app does not see it, make sure your phone is on the same 2.4 GHz network and that the printer’s wireless light is still blinking. Re-enter setup mode and try again.
Choose your 2.4 GHz network and enter the password
The app shows a list of nearby networks. Pick your 2.4 GHz network name and type the Wi-Fi password carefully — passwords are case-sensitive, and a mistyped password is the second most common cause of failed setups. The printer connects on its own; this takes about a minute.
Sign in to your HP account and finish
Because the 2755e is an HP+ printer, the app prompts you to sign in with an HP account to complete setup. Follow the on-screen steps, then install your HP 67 or HP 67XL cartridges: open the cartridge access door, remove the plastic tape from each cartridge, and slide them firmly into the color-coded slots until they click.
When setup finishes, the light next to the Wireless button glows steady blue — that is your “connected” confirmation. Print a test page from the app to be sure.
Method 2: WPS Button or WPS PIN (No App Needed)
WPS button method (easiest if your router has a WPS button)
If your router has a physical WPS button, you do not need the app at all. Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for at least 3 seconds, then within 2 minutes press the WPS button on your router. The two devices pair automatically, and the printer’s wireless light glows steady blue when connected — usually within 2 minutes.
WPS PIN method (for routers without a WPS button)
If your router has no WPS button but supports the WPS PIN method, press and hold the Wireless button and the Information button together for 5 seconds. The printer prints a page containing an 8-digit WPS PIN. Enter that PIN in your router’s configuration utility (look under the WPS section) within 2 minutes. The wireless light glows steady blue once connected.
Note: after connecting via WPS, you may still want the HP Smart app to finish HP+ account setup and install cartridges — WPS handles the network join; the app handles the rest.
Setup Won’t Complete? Fix These First
Double-check you picked the 2.4 GHz network
Worth repeating because it causes most failures: the DeskJet 2755e cannot join 5 GHz networks. If setup keeps failing at the password step, go back and make sure you selected the 2.4 GHz SSID. Check your phone too — if your phone is on the 5 GHz band while the printer tries 2.4 GHz, discovery can fail.
Move the printer closer to the router
Weak signal kills setups. During initial connection, keep the printer within a few metres of the router with as few walls as possible between them. You can move it to its permanent spot after it connects.
Restart everything in the right order
Unplug the printer for 30 seconds. Restart your router and wait for all its lights to stabilize. Turn the printer back on, re-enter setup mode (Wireless + Cancel for 3 seconds), and run HP Smart setup again. This clears stale network sessions that block first-time pairing.
If you want a clean slate, restore the printer’s network settings by pressing the Wireless and Cancel buttons together for 3 seconds, then reconnect using the HP Smart app.
Check VPNs, firewalls, and guest networks
A VPN on your phone or computer hides it from local device discovery — turn the VPN off during setup. Also make sure your device is not on a guest network (guest networks usually block devices from seeing each other). Corporate or school networks with captive portals will not work at all; use a home router instead.
Print a wireless test report
If you are unsure where it breaks, press the Wireless and Information buttons together to print a Wireless Network Test Report. It shows exactly which network the printer tried to join and where the handshake failed — handy if you end up asking for help.
Connected? Keep It That Way
Getting on the network is step one; staying on it is step two. The most annoying follow-up problem is the printer randomly showing offline after a router restart — usually because the router hands the printer a new IP address your computer cannot find. We cover the permanent fix (a static IP reservation) and five other fixes in our companion guide:
