1

Download the HP Smart App

Visit 123.hp.com or download the HP Smart app on your iOS, Android, Windows, or Mac device. Make sure your phone or computer is already connected to your home WiFi network and that you have your WiFi password ready.

2

Put the Printer in AWC Setup Mode

Power on your HP DeskJet 2700e. It will automatically enter Auto Wireless Connect (AWC) mode on first boot — the light next to the Wireless button will blink blue and the Signal Bars will cycle on the display. If needed, press the Wireless button and Cancel button together for 3 seconds to re-enter setup mode.

3

Connect via HP Smart App

Open HP Smart and tap or click the Plus (+) icon on the home screen. Select your DeskJet 2700e from the list — on iOS and Android, ensure Bluetooth is enabled to speed up detection. Follow the on-screen instructions to join your wireless network.

4

Install Cartridges and Confirm HP+ Activation

Install the HP 67 or HP 67XL Original HP cartridges — open the cartridge access door, remove plastic tape from each cartridge, and slide them into their slots until they click. Because the 2700e is an HP+ printer, Original HP cartridges and a persistent internet connection are required for full functionality.

Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

WPS Push Button Setup

If your router has a WPS button, press and hold the Wireless button on the DeskJet 2700e for at least 3 seconds, then press the WPS button on your router within 2 minutes. When the Wireless light glows steady blue, the printer is successfully connected to your network. The printer supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

HP DeskJet 2700e Won't Print (HP+ Issue)expand_more
HP+ printers require a constant internet connection and Original HP cartridges to function. Verify the Wireless light is steady blue (not blinking). If non-Original HP or refilled cartridges are installed, the printer will not operate as expected — replace them with genuine HP 67 or HP 67XL cartridges. Reconnect to WiFi using the HP Smart app if the internet connection has dropped.
Paper Jam — How to Clear Itexpand_more
Start by removing all paper from the input tray and checking for jammed sheets. If the jam is in the cartridge access area, open the door, unplug the power cord, and carefully slide the carriage to the right to remove any obstructions. For jams underneath the printer, turn the printer over, open the cleanout door on the bottom by pulling both tabs, remove the jammed paper, then close and snap the door shut. Press the Resume button to continue printing once cleared.
Poor Print Quality or Faded Colorsexpand_more
First, check estimated ink levels in HP Smart or the printer software — replace low HP 67 / HP 67XL cartridges as needed. Align the cartridges by opening the HP printer software, clicking Print & Scan, then 'Maintain Your Printer' and selecting 'Align Cartridges.' If color blocks on a printed diagnostics page show white lines or are missing, run the 'Clean Cartridges' function from the Device Services tab. Always use HP-recommended paper for best results.
Printer Not Connecting to WiFiexpand_more
Press the Wireless button and Information button simultaneously to print a Wireless Network Test Report. Check that the printer is within 30m (100ft) of your router and that Signal Bars on the display show adequate strength. If the printer is connected to the wrong network, restore network defaults by holding the Wireless button and Cancel button for 3 seconds, then re-run setup in the HP Smart app. Disconnect from any VPN before attempting to connect, as VPNs can block printer discovery.
Control Panel Error Codes (E0–E6)expand_more
The DeskJet 2700e displays error codes as a blinking 'E' followed by a number: E0 indicates a cartridge problem — check and reseat HP 67/67XL cartridges; E3 means the print carriage is stalled — open the cartridge door and clear any obstruction; E4 signals a paper jam — clear and press Resume; E5 means the scanner has failed — power cycle the printer; E6 is a general printer error — unplug the power cord for one minute, then restart. For E1 and E2, a paper size mismatch has occurred — reload the correct paper size or cancel the job and adjust settings.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Always turn off the DeskJet 2700e using the Power button and wait for the light to go out before unplugging — this parks the cartridges and prevents HP 67/67XL nozzles from drying out.
  • Check estimated ink levels regularly via the HP Smart app or printer software and replace HP 67 or HP 67XL cartridges before print quality becomes unacceptable to avoid damage to the ink system.
  • Clean cartridge contacts with a dry lint-free cloth if error E0 persists after reseating — wipe only the gold-colored contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer, and reinstall within 30 minutes to prevent clogging.
  • Run the 'Align Cartridges' tool from the HP printer software after every cartridge replacement to maintain optimal print quality and prevent banding or color misalignment on your DeskJet 2700e.
