Unbox and Power On

Remove all packaging materials and tape from the printer, including any tape covering the cartridge access door. Connect the power cord to the rear power connection port and press the Power button to turn the printer on. Wait for the printer to complete its startup sequence before proceeding.

2

Install HP 65 Ink Cartridges

Open the cartridge access door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center of the printer. Remove the plastic tape from each cartridge using the pull tab, then slide the tri-color cartridge into the left slot and the black cartridge into the right slot until each clicks into place. Close the cartridge access door to complete installation.

3

Load Paper into the Input Tray

Raise the input tray and slide the paper-width guide to the left. Insert a stack of plain white paper with the short edge down and print side up, then slide it down until it stops. Adjust the paper-width guide snugly against the paper edge, then lower the output tray and pull out the output tray extender.

Wi-Fi Direct Mobile Printing

Wi-Fi Direct lets you print from a smartphone or tablet without connecting to a router. Press and hold the Wireless button and the Resume button together for three seconds to enable Wi-Fi Direct on the 2624. Then search for the printer's Wi-Fi Direct network name on your mobile device and connect to it — up to five devices can be connected simultaneously via Wi-Fi Direct.

Paper Jam — How to Clearexpand_more
First press the Cancel button to let the printer attempt to clear the jam automatically. If that does not work, remove all paper from the input tray and check the paper path using a flashlight. For jams in the cartridge access area, open the door, wait for the carriage to stop, then power off and unplug the printer before carefully pulling the paper free with both hands. For jams underneath the printer, locate the cleanout door on the bottom, open it by pulling both tabs, remove the jammed paper, and close the door until both latches snap into place. After clearing all jams, reload paper and press the Resume button to continue.
Printer Won't Connect to Wi-Fiexpand_more
Press the Wireless button and the Information button at the same time to print a Wireless Network Test Report and Network Configuration Page. Review the report for details on signal strength and detected networks. Make sure your wireless router is powered on and that the printer is within range — try moving the printer closer to the router. If the Wireless light is blinking and the Attention icon is showing, the printer may be having trouble joining the network; press the Wireless button to reset wireless and retry setup using the HP Smart app or the HP printer software.
Cartridge Error or Ink Alert Light Onexpand_more
First check that the plastic pull-tab tape has been fully removed from each HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridge. Open the cartridge access door, press down on the problem cartridge to release it, and reinsert it firmly until it clicks. If the error persists, clean the gold electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a dry lint-free cloth. Make sure you are using genuine HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges, as counterfeit or remanufactured cartridges can trigger persistent errors. Replace the cartridge if cleaning does not resolve the issue.
Poor Print Quality — Streaks or Faded Outputexpand_more
Check estimated ink levels in the HP printer software under the Estimated Levels tab — replace cartridges if low. Open the printer software, go to Print and Scan, click Maintain Your Printer, and run Align Cartridges to correct any misalignment. Next, print a Diagnostic Information page from the Device Reports tab and inspect the color blocks for streaks or gaps. If defects are visible, run the Clean Cartridges tool from the Device Services tab. Always use HP-recommended paper and ensure the correct paper type and print quality are selected in the print dialog before printing.
Control Panel Error Codes (E1–E6)expand_more
The HP DeskJet 2624 displays error codes as the letter E followed by a number on the control panel. E1 means the paper loaded is narrower than the print job requires — reload matching paper or change the print job paper size. E2 indicates a paper length mismatch — press Resume to continue or Cancel to abort. E3 means the print carriage has stalled — open the cartridge access door, clear any obstruction, and press Resume. E4 signals a paper jam — clear all jam locations and press Resume. E5 indicates the scanner has failed — turn the printer off and on again. E6 means a general printer error — unplug the power cord, wait one minute, plug it back in, and power the printer on again.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Always turn the HP DeskJet 2624 off using the Power button and wait for the light to go out before unplugging — this parks the cartridges properly and prevents the HP 65 nozzles from drying out.
  • Check estimated ink levels regularly via the HP printer software Estimated Levels tab or the ink icons on the control panel display, and keep a spare HP 65XL cartridge on hand to avoid printing delays.
  • Run the Align Cartridges and Clean Cartridges tools from the printer software toolbox periodically, or whenever you notice streaks, faded colors, or misaligned text in your printouts.
  • Do not leave a removed cartridge outside the printer for more than 30 minutes — exposed nozzles dry out and clog quickly; reseal or reinstall the cartridge as soon as possible to preserve its lifespan.
