Unbox and Power On

Remove all packaging materials and tape from the printer, including from the cartridge access area. Plug the power cord into the rear of the printer and connect it to a power outlet, then press the Power button to turn the printer on.

2

Install the Ink Cartridges

Open the cartridge access door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center. Remove the HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges from their packaging, pull off the plastic tape using the pull tab, and slide each cartridge into its corresponding slot until it clicks into place. Close the cartridge access door when done.

Load Paper into the Input Tray

Raise the input tray and slide the paper-width guide to the left. Insert a stack of plain white paper with the short edge down and print side up, sliding it in until it stops. Adjust the paper-width guide snugly against the paper edge, then lower the output tray and pull out the output tray extender.

Printer Won't Print (Unable to Print)expand_more
Ensure the printer is powered on and paper is loaded in the input tray. Check for any error messages in the HP printer software and follow the on-screen instructions. Verify the printer is not paused or set to offline mode by opening your system's Devices and Printers settings, right-clicking the HP DeskJet 2635, and checking the printer status. If issues persist, restart the Print Spooler service and clear the print queue, then try printing again.
Paper Jam — How to Clearexpand_more
Start by removing all paper from the input tray and checking for jammed sheets. Press the Cancel button to attempt an automatic jam clear. If the jam is in the cartridge access area, open the access door, wait for the carriage to stop, then power off and unplug the printer before carefully removing any jammed paper with both hands. For jams underneath the printer, flip the printer over, open the cleanout door on the bottom, remove the jammed paper, and close the door securely before restarting. After clearing all areas, reload paper and press the Resume button to continue.
Poor Print Quality or Faded Outputexpand_more
First, confirm you are using genuine HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges and check estimated ink levels through the HP printer software under the 'Estimated Levels' tab. Use HP-recommended paper with the ColorLok logo for best results. Open the printer software, navigate to Print & Scan > Maintain Your Printer, and run the 'Align Cartridges' tool from the Device Services tab. If color blocks on the diagnostics page appear faded or streaked, use the 'Clean Cartridges' option in the same toolbox to restore print quality.
Cartridge Error or Ink Alert Light Is Onexpand_more
If the Ink Alert light is on and an Ink Level icon is blinking, a cartridge may be missing, improperly installed, or still have plastic tape covering the contacts. Open the cartridge access door and re-seat the affected cartridge, ensuring the protective tape has been fully removed. If the error persists, clean the gold-colored electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a dry, lint-free cloth. Replace the cartridge with a genuine HP 65 or HP 65XL if the problem continues. Error code E6 on the display requires unplugging the printer for one minute before restarting.
Wireless Connection Problemsexpand_more
If the Wireless light is blinking and the Wireless Attention icon is visible on the display, the printer is having trouble connecting to your network. Press the Wireless button and the Information button simultaneously to print a Wireless Network Test Report and Network Configuration Page for diagnostics. Make sure your wireless router is powered on and that the printer is within range. To reset wireless settings, press the Wireless button and hold, then use the HP Smart app or printer software to reconnect the DeskJet 2635 to your network. Ensure your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking the connection.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Always turn off the HP DeskJet 2635 using the Power button and wait for the light to go out before unplugging — this parks the cartridges properly and prevents the HP 65 nozzles from drying out.
  • Check estimated ink levels regularly through the HP printer software or HP Smart app and keep a replacement HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridge on hand to avoid unexpected printing delays.
  • Clean the cartridge contacts using a dry, lint-free cloth if you experience cartridge errors — never touch the gold electrical contacts or ink nozzles directly with your fingers.
  • Remove printed pages from the output tray frequently and avoid overloading the input tray to prevent paper jams and skewed pages — always use paper of the same size and type in a single load.
