1

Unbox and Power On

Remove all packaging tape and protective materials from the HP DeskJet 2630. Connect the power cord to the printer and plug it into a wall outlet, then press the Power button to turn it on. Wait for the printer to complete its initialization sequence before proceeding.

2

Install the Ink Cartridges

Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to move to the center. Insert the HP 65 (or HP 65XL for higher yield) black and tri-color ink cartridges into their respective slots, pressing firmly until each clicks into place. Close the access door once both cartridges are securely installed.

3

Load Paper and Connect Wirelessly

Load plain letter or A4 paper into the input tray and adjust the paper-width guides snugly against the stack. Press the Wireless button on the control panel — a blinking blue light indicates wireless is on but not yet connected. Use the HP Wireless Setup Wizard (via the HP Smart app or printer software) to connect to your 2.4 GHz network.

4

Install Software and Print a Test Page

Download and install the HP Smart app or the full-feature driver from the HP support website on your computer or mobile device. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete software setup and add the printer. Once connected, print a test page to confirm the printer is working correctly — the blue Wireless light should remain solid when connected.

Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

Wireless Network Setup (2.4 GHz)

Connect the HP DeskJet 2630 to your home Wi-Fi network using the Wireless Setup Wizard. Press the Wireless button on the control panel — a blinking blue light confirms wireless is active but not yet connected. Once the printer joins your 2.4 GHz network, the blue light stays solid. You can also print a Wireless Quick Start guide directly from the printer for step-by-step guidance, or restore wireless settings by pressing the Wireless and Resume buttons together.

Wi-Fi Direct

Wi-Fi Direct allows you to print directly from a smartphone, tablet, or laptop without needing a wireless router or network. To toggle Wi-Fi Direct on or off, press and hold the Wireless button and the Resume button simultaneously for three seconds. When Wi-Fi Direct is active, the Wi-Fi Direct icon appears on the control panel display, and the Wi-Fi Direct light blinks white when a device is attempting to connect.

Printer Won't Connect to Wireless Networkexpand_more
Ensure your router is broadcasting on 2.4 GHz — the HP DeskJet 2630 does not support 5 GHz networks. Press the Wireless button and confirm the blue light is blinking, indicating wireless is enabled. Restart your router and the printer, then re-run the Wireless Setup Wizard via the HP Smart app. If issues persist, restore wireless settings by pressing and holding the Wireless and Resume buttons together for three seconds, then set up the connection again.
Ink Alert Light Is On (Low Ink Warning)expand_more
The Ink Alert light on the control panel indicates low ink levels or a cartridge problem with your HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges. Check the HP Smart app or printer software on your computer to identify which cartridge is low. Replace the affected cartridge with a genuine HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridge to restore full print quality. Note that using non-HP or refilled cartridges may affect print quality and could require additional service charges if damage results.
Print Quality Is Poor (Streaks or Faded Output)expand_more
Streaky or faded prints on the HP DeskJet 2630 are usually caused by clogged printheads or low ink. Open the HP Smart app or printer software and run the 'Clean Printhead' utility to clear any blockages. If quality does not improve after one cleaning cycle, run a second cycle and then print an alignment page. Make sure you are using HP-recommended paper and that the ink cartridges are genuine HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges and not expired.
Paper Jam or Paper Feed Issuesexpand_more
If the HP DeskJet 2630 experiences a paper jam, the Resume light will blink amber. Open the rear access door and gently remove any jammed paper by pulling it slowly and evenly to avoid tearing. Check the input tray to ensure paper is loaded correctly and the paper-width guides are snug but not too tight against the stack. Avoid overloading the input tray — the 2630 supports a maximum of approximately 60 sheets of plain paper.
Printer Not Detected by Computer or Mobile Deviceexpand_more
If your computer or mobile device cannot detect the HP DeskJet 2630, first confirm the printer is powered on and that the blue Wireless light is solid (indicating an active network connection). Restart both the printer and your device, and ensure they are on the same 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Reinstall or update the HP Smart app or printer driver from the HP support website. Alternatively, use Wi-Fi Direct to connect directly without a network by pressing and holding the Wireless and Resume buttons for three seconds.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Clean the printhead on the HP DeskJet 2630 every few months or whenever print quality degrades — use the 'Clean Printhead' tool in the HP Smart app or printer software to remove dried ink buildup without opening the printer.
  • Replace HP 65 or HP 65XL ink cartridges promptly when the Ink Alert light activates — printing with depleted cartridges can damage the printhead and void your warranty coverage for print-quality issues.
  • Keep the scanner glass and lid clean by wiping with a soft, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water — avoid harsh chemicals that could scratch the glass or degrade scan quality on copies and scans.
  • Periodically check for firmware updates via the HP Smart app to ensure your HP DeskJet 2630 has the latest performance improvements, security patches, and compatibility fixes for your devices and network.
