Download HP Smart App

Install the HP Smart app on your iOS, Android, Windows, or Mac device. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on mobile devices for faster setup.

Enable Auto Wireless Connect Mode

Press the Wireless button and Cancel button together for 3 seconds until the light blinks blue. This activates AWC setup mode and the printer searches for your HP Smart app connection.

Select Printer and Connect to Network

Open HP Smart, tap or click the Plus icon, select your printer from the list, and follow on-screen instructions to connect to your wireless network with your Wi-Fi password.

Verify Connection and Print

Once connected, the Wireless button light glows steady blue. You can now print wirelessly from your devices using HP Smart or native print options.

Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

WPS Push Button Setup

Press and hold the Wireless button for 3+ seconds, then press your router's WPS button within 2 minutes. The Wireless light will glow steady blue when connected.

Wi-Fi Direct (No Router)

Press and hold Wireless and Resume buttons for 3 seconds to enable Wi-Fi Direct. Connect up to 5 devices directly to the printer without a network router.

Ensure the printer is turned on and paper is loaded. For HP+ printers, verify internet connection and that Original HP cartridges (HP 65/65XL) are installed. Check that the printer is not paused or offline in Windows Devices and Printers. Verify the printer is set as default. Restart the print spooler if needed.

Check the input tray first by lifting the input tray shield and removing jammed paper gently with both hands. Then check the output tray, cartridge access area, and the cleanout door on the bottom of the printer. Press Cancel button to allow automatic jam clearing. Do not force paper to avoid tearing.

Verify the printer and wireless router are powered on and the Wireless button light is steady blue. Check the Signal Bars icon - if only 1-2 bars show, move the printer closer to the router (within 30 m / 100 ft). Print the Wireless Network Test Report by pressing Wireless and Information buttons together. Restore network settings by pressing Wireless and Cancel buttons for 3 seconds.
Cartridge Error or Low Inkexpand_more
Check Ink Level icons on the display for estimated remaining ink. If blinking, remove the indicated cartridge and verify the plastic protective tape has been removed completely. Reinstall securely until it clicks. Clean cartridge contacts with a dry lint-free cloth if error persists. Order replacement HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges from hp.com/buy/supplies.
Poor Print Qualityexpand_more
Use Original HP cartridges and high-quality HP paper or ColorLok-certified paper for best results. Ensure paper is flat and not curled. Check media type setting in printer software matches loaded paper. Run cartridge alignment from the printer software toolbox. Print a diagnostic page to check for color block defects. Clean cartridges if needed through the printer software maintenance options.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Always turn off the printer properly using the Power button and wait for internal sounds to stop before unplugging
  • Store replacement HP 65/65XL cartridges at room temperature (15-35°C) in original sealed packages until needed
  • Do not clean the printhead unnecessarily as it wastes ink; only clean when print quality becomes unacceptable
  • Remove printed pages from the output tray frequently and avoid overfilling the input tray to prevent paper jams
  • For HP+ printers, maintain internet connection via Wi-Fi or Ethernet and use only Original HP cartridges for proper operation
