Paper Jam in Input Trayexpand_more
Remove all paper from the input tray including both loose and jammed sheets. Lift and hold the input tray shield and use a flashlight to locate jammed paper or foreign objects. Pull any jammed paper gently with both hands to avoid tearing. Press the Cancel button to allow the printer to clear the jam automatically. Do not remove the input tray shield as it prevents debris from entering the paper path.
Cartridge Not Recognized Error (E0)expand_more
Check that the HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges are the correct type for your printer. Remove both cartridges and verify that all plastic tape has been completely removed from the cartridge contacts. Wipe the cartridge electrical contacts (small gold dots) with a dry, lint-free cloth. Also clean the printer contacts inside with a dry swab. Reinstall the cartridges firmly until they click into place, then close the cartridge access door.
Printer Not Printingexpand_more
First ensure the printer is turned on and paper is loaded in the input tray. Check the HP Smart app or printer software for error messages and follow on-screen instructions. If using a wireless connection, confirm the connection is active by checking that the Wireless light glows steady blue and Signal Bars are visible. Verify the printer is not paused or offline by accessing the print queue in your operating system. Restart the print spooler service or restart your computer if issues persist.
Poor Print Qualityexpand_more
Verify you are using original HP cartridges with adequate ink remaining. Check that you're using quality paper such as HP paper or papers meeting the ColorLok standard. In your printer software, select the correct paper type and quality settings. If color blocks on a diagnostics page show white lines or faded colors, clean the cartridges through the printer maintenance options. For best results with photos, use HP Advanced Photo Paper and store specialty paper in resealable bags in a cool, dry place.
Wireless Connection Dropsexpand_more
Verify both the printer and wireless router are powered on with the Wireless light glowing steady blue. Check the Signal Bars icon on the printer display - if only one or two bars appear, the wireless signal is weak. Move the printer within 30 meters (100 feet) of your wireless router. Press the Wireless button and Information button simultaneously to print the Wireless Network Test Report and diagnose connection issues. Restore network settings by pressing and holding the Wireless button and Cancel button for 3 seconds, then reconnect using HP Smart app.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Always turn off the printer properly using the Power button and wait for all internal sounds to stop before unplugging to protect cartridges from drying out
  • Keep cartridges in original sealed packages until needed and store at room temperature (15-35°C). Do not open or untape cartridges until ready to install
  • Check estimated ink levels regularly through the HP Smart app or control panel Ink Level icons. Order replacement HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges when levels are low to avoid printing delays
  • Do not clean the printhead unnecessarily as this wastes ink and shortens cartridge life. Only clean when experiencing print quality issues through the maintenance tools
  • If transporting the printer, keep it sitting flat with cartridges installed to prevent ink leaking and internal damage
