Remove all packaging and tape from the printer, including from inside the cartridge access door. Connect the power cord to the rear power connection port and plug it into a working outlet, then press the Power button to turn the printer on.

2

Install HP 63 Ink Cartridges

Open the cartridge access door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center. Remove the plastic tape from each cartridge using the pull tab, then slide the tri-color cartridge into the left slot and the black cartridge into the right slot until each clicks into place. Close the cartridge access door.

3

Load Paper into the Input Tray

Raise the input tray and input tray extender, then insert a stack of plain white paper with the short edge down and the print side facing up. Slide the paper-width guide snugly against the edge of the paper, then pull out the output tray and output tray extender and lift the paper catch.

4

Install Software and Connect Wirelessly

Download and install the HP printer software from HP's website or use the included setup CD. Open the software on your Windows or Mac computer and follow the on-screen prompts to connect the DeskJet 3772 to your wireless network. Printer Won't Print — Page Not Printingexpand_more
Make sure the printer is powered on and paper is loaded in the input tray. Check for any error messages in the HP printer software and follow on-screen instructions. Verify the printer is not set to Paused or Use Printer Offline by opening Devices and Printers in Windows Control Panel. Confirm the DeskJet 3772 is set as the default printer, then restart the Print Spooler service and clear the print queue if needed. Restart the computer as a final step.
Paper Jam — How to Clearexpand_more
Press the Cancel button to attempt an automatic jam clear. If unsuccessful, gently pull jammed paper from the input tray or output tray. For jams in the cartridge access area, power off the printer, open the cartridge access door, slide the print carriage to the right if centered, and carefully remove the jammed paper. Close the door and power the printer back on. Press the Resume button to continue printing. To prevent future jams, do not overfill the input tray and always use paper that is flat and undamaged.
Ink Cartridge Error or Ink Alert Light Is Onexpand_more
Check that both HP 63 cartridges are properly installed and that all plastic tape has been removed from each cartridge. If the Ink Level icon for a cartridge is blinking with no segment, that cartridge may be missing, improperly installed, or incompatible. Remove the affected cartridge, inspect it, and firmly reinsert it until it clicks. If the Ink Alert light remains on, clean the gold-colored electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a dry lint-free cloth, then reinstall. Replace the cartridge if the error persists.
Poor Print Quality — Streaks or Faded Outputexpand_more
Ensure you are using genuine HP 63 or HP 63XL cartridges and check estimated ink levels from the HP printer software or via the Ink Level icons on the control panel display. Load unused plain white Letter or A4 paper and use the HP printer toolbox to align the cartridges via the Device Services tab. If streaks remain, print a diagnostics page from the Device Reports tab and review the color boxes. If boxes show streaks or missing sections, run the 'Clean Cartridges' function from the Device Services tab. Use HP-recommended paper with the ColorLok logo for best everyday results.
Wireless Connection Problems — Printer Offline or Not Foundexpand_more
Check that the Wireless light on the DeskJet 3772 is solid — if it is blinking with a Wireless Attention icon, the printer cannot find your network. Make sure your wireless router is powered on and move the printer closer if signal is weak. Press the Wireless button and Information button simultaneously to print a wireless network test report with diagnostic details. If the Wireless light blinks for three seconds then turns off, wireless has been disabled — press the Wireless button to re-enable it. Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility (Windows) to automatically diagnose and fix wireless connection issues.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Always turn off the DeskJet 3772 using the Power button and wait for the Power light to go out before unplugging — this parks the cartridges properly and prevents HP 63 cartridges from drying out.
  • Check estimated ink levels regularly via the Ink Level icons on the control panel display or through the HP printer software, and keep a replacement HP 63 or HP 63XL cartridge on hand to avoid printing delays.
  • Align the cartridges after installing new HP 63 cartridges by using the 'Align Cartridges' option in the printer toolbox (Print & Scan > Maintain Your Printer) to ensure the best print quality.
  • Do not leave cartridges outside the printer for more than 30 minutes — unprotected cartridges begin to dry out quickly, and extended exposure can damage the printhead.
