Product Setup

Load Paper and Media

Raise the input tray and insert a stack of paper with the short edge down and print side up. Slide the paper-width guide to the right until it stops at the edge of the paper. Pull out the output tray and lift the paper catch.

Install HP 65 or HP 65XL Cartridges

Open the cartridge access door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center. Remove plastic tape from new cartridges and slide them into their slots at a slight upward angle until they click into place. Close the access door to complete installation.

Connect to Power and USB or Wireless

Connect the power cord to a functioning outlet. For USB connection, use a cable 3 meters or less in length. For wireless setup, press the Wireless button on the control panel and follow the on-screen prompts to connect to your network.

Install Printer Software and Test Print

Open the HP printer software from your desktop or Windows Start menu. Check estimated ink levels and print a test page to verify proper operation. Configure default paper size and print preferences through the software settings.

Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

Standard Wireless Network

Press the Wireless button on the control panel to enable wireless capabilities. The printer will scan for available networks. Connect to your router by entering the network password when prompted. Check the Wireless light status to confirm connection.

Wi-Fi Direct Connection

Press the Wi-Fi Direct button to enable direct printer connectivity without a router. From your mobile device or computer, search for and select the printer's Wi-Fi Direct name. Enter the Wi-Fi Direct password when prompted to establish a direct connection.

Check that the printer is turned on and paper is loaded in the input tray. Verify there are no error messages from the printer software. If using USB, disconnect and reconnect the cable. For wireless, confirm the connection is working. Check that the printer is not paused or offline in your computer's device settings. Verify the printer is set as the default printer and restart the print spooler if necessary. If problems persist, try restarting both the printer and computer.

Press the Cancel button to attempt automatic jam clearing. If the error persists, open the cartridge access door and gently remove any jammed paper from the input tray, output tray, or cartridge area. Do not use tools or force. Ensure no foreign objects remain in the paper path. Close the access door and press the Resume button to continue printing. To prevent future jams, avoid overfilling the input tray and ensure paper edges are not bent or torn.

Check the Ink Level icons on the control panel to see which cartridge is low. Open the cartridge access door and verify both cartridges are properly installed and the protective plastic tape has been removed. If tape remains, remove it immediately. If the error persists, remove the cartridges and clean the electrical contacts with a dry, lint-free cloth, then reinstall. For low ink warnings, consider having replacement HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges available. You only need to replace cartridges when print quality becomes unacceptable.

Verify you are using original HP cartridges and check that enough ink remains. Load high-quality HP paper with the ColorLok standard for best results. In the printer software, select the appropriate paper type and print quality setting.
