HP DeskJet 3722 Manual — Setup, Troubleshooting & Cartridge Guide
The HP DeskJet 3722 is a compact all-in-one printer that combines printing, scanning, and copying in one affordable device. This guide covers initial setup, wireless connectivity, cartridge management, and comprehensive troubleshooting to keep your printer running smoothly.
Product Setup
Load Paper and Media
Raise the input tray and insert a stack of paper with the short edge down and print side up. Slide the paper-width guide to fit snugly against the edge of the paper. Pull out the output tray and lift the paper catch to complete setup.
Install Cartridges
Open the cartridge access door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center. Remove the plastic tape from new HP 65 or 65XL cartridges and slide them into the slots at a slight upward angle until they click into place. Close the access door.
Connect and Install Software
Connect your printer via USB cable or wireless network. Install the HP printer software from the included CD or download it from HP's website. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete installation and register your device.
Configure Settings
Access the embedded web server to customize default paper size detection, enable Quiet Mode for reduced noise, and adjust power management settings like Sleep Mode (default 5 minutes) and Auto-Off (default 2 hours).
Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.
WiFi Connection Guide
Wireless Network Connection
Press the Wireless button on the control panel to enable wireless mode. The printer will search for available networks. Enter your network SSID and password when prompted. Check the Wireless light and Signal Bars icon on the display to confirm connection status.
Wi-Fi Direct Connection
Press the Wi-Fi Direct button on the control panel to enable direct wireless printing without a router. Your mobile device or computer can then search for and connect to the printer's Wi-Fi Direct name. Enter the Wi-Fi Direct password when prompted for secure connection.

Important Safety Instructions
- Always turn off the printer using the Power button and wait until the light goes out to protect cartridges from drying out
- Do not open or remove protective plastic tape from cartridges until ready for installation; tape reduces ink evaporation
- Check estimated ink levels regularly via the control panel display or HP printer software to plan cartridge replacement in advance
- Clean cartridge contacts with a dry, lint-free cloth if experiencing ink or detection errors; do not exceed 30 minutes of cartridge removal
- Align cartridges quarterly or after replacing them using the printer toolbox for optimal print quality on plain white paper
- Use HP papers with ColorLok logo for superior results, particularly HP Advanced Photo Paper for photo printing
- Store specialty and photo papers in original packaging inside resealable plastic bags on flat surfaces in cool, dry locations
