Paper Jam or Paper-Feed Issuesexpand_more
Press the Cancel button to attempt automatic jam clearance. If unsuccessful, manually remove jammed paper from the input tray, output tray, or cartridge access area. Ensure no foreign objects remain in the paper path. For cartridge area jams, turn off the printer, open the access door, slide the print carriage to the right, remove paper, and close the door before pressing Resume. Load paper flat without bends or curls, ensure the paper-width guide fits snugly, avoid mixing paper types, and do not overfill the input tray.
Cartridge Problems or Low Ink Warningsexpand_more
Check the Ink Alert light and Ink Level icons on the control panel display. If an error message appears, remove the cartridges and verify that the protective plastic tape has been completely removed. Reinserting the cartridges often resolves the issue. For persistent problems, clean the cartridge contacts with a dry, lint-free cloth by holding the cartridge by its sides and wiping the gold-colored electrical contacts. Also wipe the printer's contact bumps inside. If the error persists, replace the cartridge. Use only original HP 65 or 65XL cartridges. Consider having replacement cartridges available when receiving low-ink warnings to avoid printing delays.
Print Quality Issues or Printing Failsexpand_more
Verify the printer is powered on and paper is loaded. Check for error messages in the HP printer software. If using a wireless connection, confirm connectivity. Verify the printer is not paused or offline via Windows Devices and Printers or macOS Printers & Scanners. Ensure the printer is set as the default printer. Restart the print spooler service if needed. Use high-quality HP paper with ColorLok certification for best results. Load plain white paper into the input tray and use the Align Cartridges feature in the printer toolbox. If quality remains poor, print a diagnostic page to check for streaks or missing color boxes, then clean the cartridges if needed. Avoid unnecessary cleaning to preserve ink.
Wireless Connection Problemsexpand_more
Press the Wireless button and Information button simultaneously to print the wireless network test report and network configuration page. If the Wireless light blinks with no signal, ensure your wireless router is powered on and move the printer closer to it. If connection overlaps occur with WPS, review the test report for detailed solutions. For Wi-Fi Direct issues, verify the Wi-Fi Direct light is on by pressing the Wi-Fi Direct button. From your device, search for and connect to the printer's Wi-Fi Direct name, then enter the password. Ensure your mobile device has a compatible printing app installed from the HP Mobile Printing website.
Scanner or Copy Not Workingexpand_more
Verify the original document is placed flat on the scanner glass. Use the Start Copy Black or Start Copy Color buttons on the control panel to initiate copying. For low-quality scans or copies, ensure the scan path and scan light are not obstructed. Clean the scanner glass gently with a soft, lint-free cloth. If the scanner icon alternates between 'E' and '5' on the display with all lights blinking, turn the printer off and on. If the problem persists, contact HP support as the printer will still function for printing even if the scanner is not working.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Always turn off the printer using the Power button and wait until the light goes out to protect cartridges from drying out
  • Do not open or remove protective plastic tape from cartridges until ready for installation; tape reduces ink evaporation
  • Check estimated ink levels regularly via the control panel display or HP printer software to plan cartridge replacement in advance
  • Clean cartridge contacts with a dry, lint-free cloth if experiencing ink or detection errors; do not exceed 30 minutes of cartridge removal
  • Align cartridges quarterly or after replacing them using the printer toolbox for optimal print quality on plain white paper
  • Use HP papers with ColorLok logo for superior results, particularly HP Advanced Photo Paper for photo printing
  • Store specialty and photo papers in original packaging inside resealable plastic bags on flat surfaces in cool, dry locations
