Product Setup
Load Paper and Media
Raise the input tray and load a stack of paper with the print side up. Slide the paper-width guide to fit snugly against the edge of the paper. Pull out the output tray extender and lift the paper catch to prepare for printing.
Install HP 65 or 65XL Cartridges
Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to center. Remove plastic tape from each cartridge. Insert cartridges at a slight upward angle into their color-matched slots until they click into place. Close the access door to complete installation.
Connect Power and Choose Connection Method
Plug the power cord into a functioning outlet. The printer will initialize automatically. Choose USB for direct computer connection or press the Wireless button to connect via Wi-Fi to your home network or use Wi-Fi Direct for mobile printing.
Install Software and Test Print
Install the HP printer software from the included CD or download from hp.com. Open the software and send a test print job. Check the control panel display for ink levels and wireless connection status to confirm successful setup.
Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.
WiFi Connection Guide
Wireless Network Connection
Press the Wireless button on the control panel to enable wireless mode. The printer will search for available networks. Select your home Wi-Fi network from the control panel display and enter your network password. The Wireless light will indicate successful connection.
