Paper Jams and Feed Issuesexpand_more
Press Cancel to attempt automatic clearing. If the jam persists, manually remove jammed paper from the input tray, output tray, or cartridge access area. Ensure the paper-width guide fits snugly against paper edges and never overfill the input tray. Load only one paper type and size at a time. For carriage jams, open the cartridge access door and remove any blocking objects, then press Resume to continue.
Low Ink or Cartridge Errorsexpand_more
Check ink levels on the control panel display or in the printer software. If a cartridge error appears, remove the cartridges and verify all plastic protective tape has been removed. Reinstall each cartridge securely until it clicks into place. Clean the gold-colored electrical contacts with a lint-free cloth if errors persist. Replace HP 65 or 65XL cartridges when print quality becomes unacceptable. Ink level warnings are estimates only—continue printing until quality declines.
Printing Issues and Poor Print Qualityexpand_more
Verify the printer is powered on and paper is loaded. Check that the printer is not paused or offline in Windows Device and Printers or OS X Printers & Scanners. Ensure the printer is set as default. Use original HP cartridges and verify they are not low on ink. For poor quality, load unused plain white paper, open the printer software, and run Align Cartridges from the Device Services tab. If issues persist, run the Print Diagnostic Information tool and clean cartridges if the diagnostic page shows streaks or missing color boxes.
Wireless Connection Problemsexpand_more
If the Wireless light is blinking with attention icons, press the Wireless button and Information button together to run the wireless network test. Verify your router is powered on and the printer is within range. Move the printer closer to the wireless router if signal is weak. Check that you entered the correct network password. Disable any firewall or antivirus software temporarily to test connectivity. Restart both the printer and wireless router if the connection cannot be established.
Copy and Scan Quality Issuesexpand_more
Place the document face-down on the scanner glass or in the automatic document feeder. Ensure the scan path and scan light are clean and unobstructed. For poor copy quality, verify ink levels are adequate and load fresh paper. Align the cartridges and run a diagnostic print. Check that no foreign objects block the scanner or paper path. If scans appear distorted, clean the scanner glass gently with a soft, lint-free cloth. Restart the printer if scan functionality becomes unavailable.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Always turn off the printer using the Power button and wait for the light to turn off before powering down to protect cartridges from drying out.
  • Check estimated ink levels regularly from the control panel display or printer software. Have replacement HP 65 or 65XL cartridges available before reaching critical low levels.
  • Never leave cartridges removed from the printer longer than 30 minutes, as they will begin to dry out. Reinstall immediately after any maintenance.
  • Align cartridges monthly or whenever print quality degrades. Use high-quality HP papers with ColorLok certification for best results and document longevity.
