Check that paper is loaded and the printer is powered on. Verify the Wireless light is on and connected. Verify the printer is not paused: go to Devices and Printers, right-click the printer, and uncheck 'Pause Printing' or 'Use Printer Offline'. Restart the print spooler service. If using USB, disconnect and reconnect the cable. Try printing a test page from the HP printer software.
Paper Jam or Feed Issuesexpand_more
Press the Cancel button to clear automatically. For manual clearing: pull jammed paper gently from the input or output tray. For cartridge area jams, turn off the printer, open the front door and cartridge access door, move the carriage to the right, and remove the paper. Close all doors and press Resume. Check that paper is flat, not curled, and adjust the paper-width guide snugly. Do not overfill the input tray.
Low Print Quality or Streaksexpand_more
Check estimated ink levels—replace cartridges if low. Open HP printer software, go to Maintain Your Printer, and run 'Align Ink Cartridges.' Load plain white paper and print a diagnostic page to review color and black boxes. If streaks appear, run 'Clean Ink Cartridges' from the Device Services tab. Ensure you are using original HP 65 or 65XL cartridges and high-quality HP paper with the ColorLok logo.
Wireless Connection Drops or Won't Connectexpand_more
Verify your router is powered on and the printer is within range. Press the Wireless button and Information button together to print the wireless network test report. Check that the Wireless light is on. Ensure the printer is connecting to a 2.4GHz network (5GHz is not supported). Restart both the printer and router. Try reconnecting using WPS or HP printer software. If the Wireless light blinks with the Attention icon, move the printer closer to the router.
Ink Cartridge Not Recognized or Error Messageexpand_more
Remove the cartridge and check that all protective plastic tape has been completely removed. Verify you are using genuine HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges. Clean the gold electrical contacts on both the cartridge and the printer contacts inside using a dry, lint-free cloth. Reinstall the cartridge firmly until it snaps into place. If the Ink Alert light is on, close the cartridge access door and press Resume. If the problem persists, try using the printer in single-cartridge mode by removing the problematic cartridge.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Always turn off the printer using the Power button and wait until the light goes out to protect cartridges from drying out
  • Do not remove protective tape from cartridges until ready to install them to reduce ink evaporation
  • Replace ink cartridges when print quality becomes unacceptable, not necessarily when the low-ink warning appears
  • Align ink cartridges after installation for optimal print quality using the 'Align Ink Cartridges' tool in the printer software
  • Clean cartridge contacts with a dry cloth if experiencing recognition errors before replacing cartridges
  • Store specialty papers in original packaging in a sealed plastic bag in a cool, dry place to prevent curling
