Connect via Wi-Fi Direct

Press the Wi-Fi Direct button on the control panel to enable direct printing without a router. Up to five devices can connect simultaneously. Find the Wi-Fi Direct name and password by pressing the Information button to print the configuration page.

Paper Jam Error (E4)expand_more
Press Cancel to attempt automatic clearing. If unsuccessful, open the front door and cartridge access door to manually remove jammed paper. Check the bottom cleanout door if needed. Do not force paper — pull gently and ensure no foreign objects remain in the paper path. Press Resume to continue printing.
Low or Missing Ink Cartridgeexpand_more
Check the Ink Level icons on the control panel display. If an icon blinks with no segments, the cartridge may be missing or improperly installed. Remove the cartridge, check for plastic tape, and reinsert securely. For low ink (one segment), you can continue printing but consider replacing cartridges to avoid quality degradation. Compatible cartridges are HP 65 and HP 65XL.
Printer Not Printingexpand_more
Verify the printer is on and paper is loaded. Check the control panel for error messages. Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, or confirm wireless connection status. Ensure the printer is not paused or offline in Windows settings (Devices and Printers). Verify the printer is set as the default device. Restart the print spooler service or restart your computer if issues persist.
Poor Print Quality or Streaksexpand_more
Use original HP ink cartridges and verify correct paper type in printer software. Check ink levels and replace if low. Select appropriate print quality (Normal, Draft, or Best). Align the ink cartridges using the printer software Maintain Your Printer option. If streaks persist, clean the cartridges through the software. Use high-quality paper with the ColorLok logo for best results.
Wireless Connection Failsexpand_more
Ensure your router supports 2.4GHz (not 5GHz only). Move the printer closer to the wireless router. Press the Wireless button and Information button together to print the wireless network test report. Verify your network password is correct. Restart both printer and router. Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility (Windows) or the online troubleshooting wizard for detailed diagnostics.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Always turn off the printer using the Power button and wait until the light goes out to protect cartridges from drying
  • Do not open or untape cartridges until ready to install; leaving tape on reduces ink evaporation
  • Keep cartridges installed — outside the printer they begin to dry out within 30 minutes
  • Align cartridges periodically through the printer software for optimal print quality
  • Use HP paper with the ColorLok logo for everyday printing; store specialty photo paper in resealable bags in cool, dry conditions
