Unbox and Power On

Remove all packaging materials and tape from the printer, including any tape covering the cartridge access area. Place the printer on a flat, stable surface near your computer and plug the power cord into an outlet. Press the On button and wait for the printer to complete its startup sequence before proceeding.

2

Install Ink Cartridges

Open the cartridge access door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center. Remove the HP 65 tri-color and black ink cartridges from their packaging, peel off the pink protective tape, and insert each cartridge into the correct color-coded slot. Press each cartridge firmly until it snaps into place, then close the access door.

3

Load Paper and Install Software

Open the output tray and load plain white letter or A4 paper into the input tray, adjusting the paper-width guide to fit snugly. Insert the printer software CD into your computer or download the latest drivers from hp.com/support. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the software installation.

4

Align the Ink Cartridges

After installation, open the printer software and navigate to Print & Scan, then click 'Maintain Your Printer' to access the Printer Toolbox. Click 'Align Ink Cartridges' on the Device Services tab — the printer will print an alignment sheet. Place the sheet face-down on the scanner glass and press the Start Copy Black button to complete alignment.

Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

WPS Push Button Setup

If your router has a WPS button, press and hold the Wireless button on the HP DeskJet 2547 for more than 3 seconds until the wireless status light begins blinking. Then press the WPS button on your router within 2 minutes to establish the connection. The wireless light will stop blinking and remain solid once the printer has successfully joined your 2.4GHz network.

HP Wireless Direct (No Router Needed)

HP Wireless Direct allows smartphones, tablets, and laptops to connect and print directly to the DeskJet 2547 without a wireless router. Press the Wireless Direct button on the printer control panel to enable this mode — on first use, the printer will automatically print an information page with connection details and the default password. The Wireless Direct status light will remain solid when this mode is active.

Poor Print Quality or Streaky Outputexpand_more
Ensure you are using genuine HP 65 or HP 65XL ink cartridges and that the correct paper type is selected in the printer software under Print & Scan > Set Preferences. Check estimated ink levels and replace any low cartridges. Open the Printer Toolbox via 'Maintain Your Printer,' then run 'Align Ink Cartridges' followed by 'Print Diagnostic Information.' If color or black boxes appear streaky or incomplete on the diagnostics page, click 'Clean Ink Cartridges' on the Device Services tab and follow the on-screen instructions.
Paper Jam — How to Clearexpand_more
First press the Cancel button to attempt an automatic jam clearance. If the jam persists, gently pull the paper out from the input tray, output tray, or cartridge access area depending on where it is stuck. For jams inside the printer, open the cleanout door on the bottom of the printer by pressing the tabs on both sides, remove the jammed paper, and close the door until both latches snap into place. Press Start Copy Black or Start Copy Color to resume printing. To prevent future jams, do not overfill the input tray, always use a single paper type and size, and ensure the paper-width guide fits snugly without bending the paper.
Printer Not Responding or Unable to Printexpand_more
Check that the printer is powered on and paper is loaded in the input tray. Open Devices and Printers from the Windows Control Panel and ensure the HP DeskJet 2547 is set as the default printer and is not paused or offline. If the issue continues, restart the Print Spooler service via Administrative Tools > Services, clear the print queue by canceling all documents, and restart your computer. You can also download the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from hp.com for automated diagnosis and repair.
Ink Cartridge Error or Defective Cartridgeexpand_more
If the ink cartridge lights are blinking, first confirm that the pink protective tape has been fully removed from both the HP 65 tri-color and black cartridges and that both are properly seated. Try removing and reinserting each cartridge. If the error persists, clean the gold-colored electrical contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer using a dry, lint-free cloth. To identify which cartridge is defective, remove the black cartridge and close the access door — a rapidly blinking On button indicates the tri-color cartridge needs replacement, while no blinking points to the black cartridge.
Unable to Copy or Scanexpand_more
For Windows users, download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from hp.com to automatically detect and resolve common copy and scan issues. Ensure the scanner glass is clean and free of smudges, and that the document is placed face-down on the right front corner of the glass. Confirm the printer software is properly installed and the printer is connected either via USB or a stable wireless connection. Visit hp.com/support for additional step-by-step scan troubleshooting guides.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Always turn off the HP DeskJet 2547 using the On button and wait for the On button light to go out before unplugging — this prevents the HP 65 cartridges from drying out.
  • Do not open or remove the tape from HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges until you are ready to install them, as exposure to air accelerates ink evaporation and can damage the printhead.
  • If you remove a cartridge for any reason, reinstall it as soon as possible — cartridges left outside the printer for more than 30 minutes risk permanent printhead damage.
  • Regularly check estimated ink levels via the printer software under Print & Scan, and keep a replacement HP 65XL cartridge on hand to avoid unexpected printing delays.
