It connects via USB and delivers reliable color and black-and-white output using HP 65 and HP 65XL ink cartridges. This page covers setup instructions, troubleshooting guidance, maintenance tips, and full specifications for the DeskJet D2500 series.
Product Setup
Unbox and Position the Printer
Remove all packaging tape and protective materials from the HP DeskJet 2500. Place the printer on a flat, stable surface near your computer with enough space to load paper and open the cartridge access door.
Connect via USB Cable
Plug the USB cable firmly from your computer directly into the HP DeskJet 2500, avoiding any USB hubs as these can cause connection issues. Ensure the connection is secure at both ends before proceeding.
Install Ink Cartridges
Open the cartridge access door and insert the HP 65 Black cartridge into the right slot and the HP 65 Tri-color cartridge into the left slot. Press each cartridge down firmly until it clicks into place, then close the access door.
Install Software and Print a Test Page
Insert the software CD or visit the HP support site to download the DeskJet D2500 series driver. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation, then print a test page to confirm everything is working correctly.
Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.
WiFi Connection Guide
USB Direct Connection
The HP DeskJet 2500 connects to your computer via a standard USB cable. Make sure the cable is plugged directly into your computer and the printer without using a USB hub, as this can prevent the printer from being detected properly.
Driver Software Setup
To ensure your USB connection works correctly, install the full HP DeskJet D2500 series software from the included CD or HP's website. Navigate to Programs > HP > Deskjet D2500 series after installation to access printer tools and the Readme file.
