Unbox and Power On

Remove all packaging materials and protective tape from the printer. Place it on a flat, stable surface near your computer and plug the power cord into a wall outlet. Press the Power button to turn the unit on.

2

Install the Ink Cartridges

Open the cartridge access door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center. Remove each HP 65 cartridge from its packaging, pull off the pink plastic tape tab, and slide each cartridge firmly into its slot until it clicks into place. Close the cartridge door.

3

Load Paper and Connect USB

Load a stack of plain white letter or A4 paper into the input tray, making sure the edges are straight and the paper-width guide fits snugly. Connect the USB cable (3 m or less recommended) from the printer to your computer.

4

Install Software and Align Cartridges

Install the HP DeskJet 2510 series Printer Software on your computer, then open it and navigate to Print & Scan > Maintain Your Printer > Device Services to align the ink cartridges. Follow the on-screen prompts to print and scan the alignment sheet for optimal print quality.

Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

USB Direct Connection

The HP DeskJet 2512 connects to your computer via a standard USB cable. HP recommends using a cable no longer than 3 metres (10 feet) to minimize signal noise and ensure a stable connection. Once plugged in and the software is installed, the printer is ready to use immediately.

Software-Based Management

Use the HP DeskJet 2510 series Printer Software on your PC to manage all printer functions, check estimated ink levels, order supplies, and run maintenance tools. Access it via Start > Programs > HP > HP DeskJet 2510 series or the desktop shortcut installed during setup.

How do I improve poor print quality?expand_more
First, confirm you are using genuine HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges. Check the Printer Software settings to ensure the correct paper type and print quality are selected. Check estimated ink levels and replace any low cartridges. If ink levels are fine, open the Printer Software, go to Print & Scan > Maintain Your Printer > Device Reports and print a diagnostics page. If you see streaks or missing ink in the color or black boxes, go to Device Services and run the Clean Ink Cartridges tool. You can also align cartridges from the Device Services tab to restore sharp output.
How do I clear a paper jam?expand_more
Press the Cancel button first to attempt an automatic jam clearance. If that does not work, identify where the jam is located. For jams near the input tray, gently pull the paper out from the back. For jams near the output tray, pull the paper out from the front — you may need to open the carriage door and slide the carriage to the right. For jams inside the printer, open the cleanout door on the bottom of the printer by pressing the tabs on both sides, remove the jammed paper, then firmly close the door until both latches snap into place. Press Start Copy Black or Start Copy Color to resume printing.
The printer won't print — what should I check?expand_more
Make sure the printer is powered on and paper is loaded. Check for any error messages and resolve them first. Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable. Open Devices and Printers from the Windows Start menu, right-click your printer, and select 'See what's printing' — ensure neither 'Pause Printing' nor 'Use Printer Offline' is checked. Verify the HP DeskJet 2512 is set as the default printer. If issues persist, restart the Print Spooler service via Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, and clear the print queue. Restart your computer as a final step.
How do I identify a defective ink cartridge?expand_more
If both the tri-color and black ink level indicators are blinking while the Power light is on, first check that the pink protective tape has been removed from both cartridges and that both are properly installed. If the indicators continue blinking, one cartridge may be defective. Remove the black cartridge and close the cartridge door — if the Power light blinks, replace the tri-color cartridge. If the Power light does not blink, the black cartridge is the faulty one and should be replaced.
How can I prevent paper jams?expand_more
Do not overfill the input tray, and remove printed pages from the output tray frequently. Always ensure paper is loaded flat with no bent or torn edges, and never mix different paper types or sizes in the same tray. Adjust the paper-width guide so it fits snugly against the paper stack without bending it. Do not force paper too far forward into the input tray, as this can cause misfeeds and jams.
