1

Power On and Enter AWC Mode

Press the Power button to turn on your HP DeskJet 4155e. On first power-on, the printer automatically enters Auto Wireless Connect (AWC) setup mode — you will see the Wireless button light blink blue and Signal Bars cycling on the display. If needed, press the Wireless button and Cancel button together for 3 seconds to re-enter AWC mode.

2

Download and Open the HP Smart App

Download the HP Smart app on your iOS, Android, Windows, or macOS device from 123.hp.com or your device's app store. Make sure your phone or computer is already connected to your Wi-Fi network and that Bluetooth is enabled on iOS or Android devices, as HP Smart uses Bluetooth to streamline the setup process.

3

Add the Printer in HP Smart

Open the HP Smart app and tap or click the Plus (+) icon on the home screen. Select your HP DeskJet 4155e from the list — if it does not appear, choose 'Add Printer' and follow the on-screen instructions to connect it to your wireless network. The Wireless button light will glow steady blue once the connection is successful.

4

Install Cartridges and Load Paper

Open the cartridge access door and install your HP 67 or HP 67XL cartridges — slide each into the correct color-coded slot at a slight upward angle until it clicks into place, then remove the plastic pull-tab before inserting. Load plain white paper into the input tray and adjust the paper-width guide snugly against the paper before printing your first test page.

Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

router

Connect via Wireless Router (WPS or HP Smart)

Connect the 4155e to your home or office Wi-Fi network using WPS Push Button or PIN method, or through the HP Smart app. Press and hold the Wireless button for 3 seconds to initiate WPS Push Button, then press the WPS button on your router. Supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. A steady blue Wireless light confirms a successful connection.

Connect via Wi-Fi Direct (No Router Needed)

Wi-Fi Direct lets you print directly from a smartphone, tablet, or computer without connecting to an existing wireless network. Press and hold the Wireless button and Resume button together for 3 seconds to toggle Wi-Fi Direct on or off. Up to 5 devices can connect simultaneously. Find the Wi-Fi Direct name and password by pressing the Information button to print a printer info page.

Printer Won't Connect to Wi-Fiexpand_more
Ensure your wireless router is powered on and that the printer is within 30 m (100 ft) of the access point. Check that the Wireless button light is steady blue — if blinking, the printer is still attempting to connect. Press the Wireless button and Information button simultaneously to print a Wireless Network Test Report. Restore network settings by pressing and holding the Wireless button and Cancel button together for 3 seconds, then reconnect using the HP Smart app. If you are on a VPN, disconnect from it before attempting to connect the printer.
Paper Jam — How to Clear Itexpand_more
Start by removing all paper from the input tray and checking for jammed sheets. Press the Cancel button to attempt an automatic jam clear. If the jam is in the cartridge access area, open the door, wait for the carriage to stop, then unplug the printer before carefully removing the jammed paper with both hands. For jams underneath the printer, turn the unit over, open the cleanout door on the bottom by pulling both tabs, remove the jammed paper, then close and snap the door shut before restoring power.
Cartridge Error or Ink Problem (E0 Error Code)expand_more
If the display shows a blinking 'E0' with the Ink Alert light, check both HP 67 or HP 67XL cartridges. Remove each cartridge and verify the protective plastic tape has been fully removed from the contacts. Reinsert firmly until they click. If the error persists, clean the gold-colored electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a dry, lint-free cloth — never smear ink onto other surfaces. If only one cartridge is problematic, the printer can operate in single cartridge mode temporarily while you replace the faulty unit.
Poor Print Quality or Faded Outputexpand_more
First, confirm you are using genuine HP 67 or HP 67XL cartridges and check the estimated ink levels via the HP Smart app or printer software. Always use flat, high-quality paper — HP Advanced Photo Paper for images or ColorLok-certified paper for documents. Open the printer software and navigate to Print & Scan > Maintain Your Printer to access the Toolbox, then run 'Align Cartridges' to print an alignment page. If color blocks on the diagnostics page appear faded or incomplete, run the 'Clean Cartridges' routine from the Device Services tab. Always turn the printer off using the Power button to prevent nozzles from drying out.
Printer Shows Offline or Won't Print (Windows)expand_more
Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click the HP DeskJet 4155e, and open the print queue. Make sure 'Pause Printing' and 'Use Printer Offline' are unchecked. Verify the printer is set as the default device. If the issue persists, restart the Print Spooler service: open Services (Windows Administrative Tools), right-click 'Print Spooler', click Properties, confirm Startup Type is 'Automatic', and click Start. Clear the print queue by canceling all documents, then restart your computer. You can also run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility for automatic diagnosis on Windows.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Always turn off the HP DeskJet 4155e using the Power button and wait for the light to go out before unplugging — this parks the cartridges properly and prevents HP 67/67XL nozzles from drying out.
  • Check estimated ink levels regularly via the HP Smart app or printer software; replace HP 67 or HP 67XL cartridges before print quality degrades rather than waiting for complete depletion.
  • Clean cartridge electrical contacts with a dry lint-free cloth if you encounter cartridge error codes — never use water or solvents, and avoid touching the gold-colored contact dots directly.
  • Align cartridges after every replacement using the Printer Toolbox (Print & Scan > Maintain Your Printer > Align Cartridges) to ensure the best possible print quality and avoid streaking or misalignment.
