Product Setup

Power On and Enter AWC Mode

Press the Power button to turn on your HP DeskJet 4155e. On first power-on, the printer automatically enters Auto Wireless Connect (AWC) setup mode — you will see the Wireless button light blink blue and Signal Bars cycling on the display. If needed, press the Wireless button and Cancel button together for 3 seconds to re-enter AWC mode.

Download and Open the HP Smart App

Download the HP Smart app on your iOS, Android, Windows, or macOS device from 123.hp.com or your device's app store. Make sure your phone or computer is already connected to your Wi-Fi network and that Bluetooth is enabled on iOS or Android devices, as HP Smart uses Bluetooth to streamline the setup process.

Add the Printer in HP Smart

Open the HP Smart app and tap or click the Plus (+) icon on the home screen. Select your HP DeskJet 4155e from the list — if it does not appear, choose 'Add Printer' and follow the on-screen instructions to connect it to your wireless network. The Wireless button light will glow steady blue once the connection is successful.

Install Cartridges and Load Paper

Open the cartridge access door and install your HP 67 or HP 67XL cartridges — slide each into the correct color-coded slot at a slight upward angle until it clicks into place, then remove the plastic pull-tab before inserting. Load plain white paper into the input tray and adjust the paper-width guide snugly against the paper before printing your first test page.

Connect via Wireless Router (WPS or HP Smart)

Connect the 4155e to your home or office Wi-Fi network using WPS Push Button or PIN method, or through the HP Smart app. Press and hold the Wireless button for 3 seconds to initiate WPS Push Button, then press the WPS button on your router. Supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. A steady blue Wireless light confirms a successful connection.

Connect via Wi-Fi Direct (No Router Needed)

Wi-Fi Direct lets you print directly from a smartphone, tablet, or computer without connecting to an existing wireless network. Press and hold the Wireless button and Resume button together for 3 seconds to toggle Wi-Fi Direct on or off. Up to 5 devices can connect simultaneously. Find the Wi-Fi Direct name and password by pressing the Information button to print a printer info page.

Ensure your wireless router is powered on and that the printer is within 30 m (100 ft) of the access point. Check that the Wireless button light is steady blue — if blinking, the printer is still attempting to connect. Press the Wireless button and Information button simultaneously to print a Wireless Network Test Report. Restore network settings by pressing and holding the Wireless button and Cancel button together for 3 seconds, then reconnect using the HP Smart app. If you are on a VPN, disconnect from it before attempting to connect the printer.

Start by removing all paper from the input tray and checking for jammed sheets. Press the Cancel button to attempt an automatic jam clear. If the jam is in the cartridge access area, open the door, wait for the carriage to stop, then unplug the printer before carefully removing the jammed paper with both hands.
