Install SETUP Cartridges

When first setting up your HP DeskJet 3525, you must install the SETUP cartridges that shipped with the printer. These cartridges are labeled SETUP and calibrate your printer before the first print job. Do not open or uncap cartridges until ready to install. After setup is complete, you can use regular HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges.

2

Load Paper in Input Tray

Open the paper tray and load letter or A4 plain white paper. Ensure the paper lies flat with no bent or torn edges. Adjust the paper-width guide to fit snugly against the paper stack. Do not combine different paper types or sizes in the same tray.

3

Align Printer Cartridges

After installing new cartridges, align them for optimal print quality. Load unused plain white paper, open the Printer Software, click Print and Scan, then Maintain Your Printer. Select Align Printheads on the Device Services tab and follow the on-screen instructions to complete alignment.

Improve Print Qualityexpand_more
Ensure you are using genuine HP cartridges. Check print properties to select the appropriate paper type and print quality from the Media drop-down list. Check estimated ink levels and align cartridges if they are low. Print a diagnostics page to check for streaks or missing color areas. If issues persist, clean the printheads automatically from the Printer Software under Maintain Your Printer > Device Services tab.
Clear a Paper Jamexpand_more
If paper is jammed and visible from the exterior, gently pull it out and press OK. If you cannot see or access the jam, open the cartridge access door. For jams in the cartridge access area, pull out the paper carefully without touching the white encoder strip. For jams towards the back, open the cleanout door and remove the paper. If paper cannot be reached, close the cartridge access door, remove all paper from the tray, rotate the printer to rest on its left side, slide out the paper tray, and remove jammed paper from inside.
Unable to Printexpand_more
Make sure the printer is turned on and paper is loaded. Download the HP Printing Diagnostic Utility to troubleshoot automatically. Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable. Verify the printer is not paused or offline by checking the Printer menu in Devices and Printers. Ensure the printer is set as the default printer. Restart the print spooler through Services, restart the computer, and clear the print queue through the Printer menu.
Ink Cartridge Problemsexpand_more
First try removing and reinserting the cartridges. If an error persists, clean the cartridge contacts. Open the cartridge access door, remove the cartridge indicated in the error message, and wipe only the electrical contacts (four small copper or gold rectangles) with a dry swab or lint-free cloth. Also wipe the contacts on the printhead inside the printer. Reinstall the cartridge and close the access door. If the error continues, turn the printer off and then on again, or contact HP support for assistance.
