Unbox and Power On

Remove all packaging materials and tape from the printer. Plug in the power cord and press the power button to turn on the HP DeskJet 3510. Wait for the printer to complete its initialization sequence before proceeding.

2

Install the Ink Cartridges

Open the cartridge access door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center. Remove the HP 61 or HP 61XL cartridges from their packaging, pull off the pink plastic tape tab, and slide each cartridge firmly into its slot until it clicks into place. Close the cartridge door when done.

3

Load Paper and Align Cartridges

Load letter or A4 plain white paper into the input tray, ensuring edges are flat and the paper-width guide fits snugly. After installing new cartridges, the printer will prompt you to align them — follow the on-screen instructions to print and scan an alignment sheet for best print quality.

Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

Wireless Network Setup

Connect the HP DeskJet 3510 to your home WiFi network for cable-free printing from any device. Access the wireless settings from the printer's control panel home screen, select your network, and enter your security password. Once connected, all computers on the same network can send print jobs wirelessly.

USB Direct Connection

For a quick and reliable connection, use a USB cable of 3 metres (10 feet) or less to connect the HP DeskJet 3510 directly to your computer. HP recommends keeping the cable short to minimise injected noise during printing. You can later switch to a wireless connection through the HP printer software settings.

How do I improve print quality?expand_more
First, ensure you are using genuine HP 61 or HP 61XL cartridges. Check print properties and confirm the correct paper type and print quality are selected in the Media drop-down list via Printer Software > Print & Scan > Set Preferences. Check estimated ink levels and replace low cartridges. Align cartridges via Printer Software > Print & Scan > Maintain Your Printer > Align Ink Cartridges, or from the printer display via Settings > Tools > Align Printhead. If issues persist, print a diagnostics page and use the Clean Ink Cartridges option if streaks or missing ink are visible.
How do I clear a paper jam?expand_more
Press the Cancel button to attempt an automatic jam clearance. If unsuccessful, locate the jam manually. For input tray jams, gently pull paper out from the back. For output tray jams, gently pull from the front — you may need to open the carriage door and slide the print carriage right to access the jam. For internal jams, open the cleanout door on the bottom of the printer by pressing the tabs on both sides, remove the jammed paper, then close the door until both latches snap into place. Press OK to continue printing.
My HP DeskJet 3510 won't print — what should I do?expand_more
Confirm the printer is on and paper is loaded. Check for error messages on the printer display. Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, or verify your wireless connection is active. Open Devices and Printers on your PC and ensure the printer is not paused or set to offline mode. Verify the HP DeskJet 3510 is set as the default printer. Restart the Print Spooler service via Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Clear the print queue by right-clicking the printer icon and selecting 'Cancel all documents.' Restart your computer and try again.
How do I fix an ink cartridge problem?expand_more
Start by removing and reinserting the cartridge. If the error persists, clean the cartridge contacts: open the cartridge access door, remove the affected cartridge, and use a dry lint-free cloth to gently wipe only the copper or gold-coloured electrical contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer. Do not smear ink onto other areas. Reinstall the cartridge and close the door. If the problem continues, replace the cartridge. Note: the HP DeskJet 3510 supports single-cartridge mode if only one cartridge is available.
How do I prevent paper jams on the DeskJet 3510?expand_more
Avoid overfilling the input tray and remove printed pages from the output tray frequently. Always load paper flat with no bent or torn edges, and never mix different paper types or sizes in the same tray. Adjust the paper-width guide to fit snugly against the paper stack without bending it. Do not push paper too far forward into the input tray. Using the correct paper type as specified in the printer software settings also helps prevent jams.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Check estimated ink levels regularly via the control panel (Home > Ink Levels) or Printer Software to avoid running out mid-print job.

  • Align the HP 61 / HP 61XL cartridges after every new cartridge installation using Settings > Tools > Align Printhead on the printer display for optimal print quality.
  • Run the Print Quality Report periodically from Settings > Tools > Print Quality Report to catch streaking or missing ink early and clean the printhead if needed.
