Unpack and Position Your Printer

Remove the HP DeskJet 3511 from its packaging and place it on a flat, stable surface near your computer. Ensure adequate ventilation and keep the printer away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

Install HP 65 or HP 65XL Cartridges

Open the cartridge access door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center. Remove the protective plastic tape from each cartridge using the pink pull tab, then slide the color and black cartridges into their slots until they click into place.

Load Paper and Align Cartridges

Load letter or A4 plain white paper into the input tray. The printer will prompt you to align the cartridges automatically upon first installation. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment process for optimal print quality.

Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

Connect via USB Cable

Use a USB cable (3 meters or less recommended) to connect directly to your computer. Install the HP printer software from the included CD or download the latest drivers from hp.com/support.

Configure Wireless Connection

Access the printer's control panel home screen and navigate to network settings. Select your WiFi network and enter your security credentials. Verify the connection is working before attempting to print wirelessly.

  2. Locate the jammed paper in the input tray, output tray, or inside the printer
  3. If paper is in the input or output tray, gently pull it out. You may need to open the carriage door and slide the print carriage to the right
  4. If paper is inside the printer, open the cleanout door on the bottom by pressing both side tabs
  5. Remove the jammed paper carefully and close the cleanout door until both latches snap into place
  6. Press OK on the control panel to resume printing

  2. Check the printer display for error messages and follow on-screen instructions
  3. Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, or confirm wireless connection is active
  4. Verify the printer is not paused or offline: Go to Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and uncheck 'Pause Printing' and 'Use Printer Offline'
  5. Set the HP DeskJet 3511 as your default printer
  6. Restart the Print Spooler service in Windows Administrative Tools > Services
  7. Clear the print queue by going to Devices and Printers, double-clicking your printer, and clicking 'Cancel all documents'
  8. Restart your computer and try printing again

  4. Wipe the contacts in the printer's printhead (four copper or gold-colored pins) with a dry cloth
  5. Reinstall the cartridge and close the access door
  6. If the error persists, turn the printer off and back on
  7. If one cartridge is faulty, you can operate the printer in single-cartridge mode with one cartridge only

  • Remove printed papers from the output tray frequently and ensure input tray is not overfilled to prevent paper jams
  • Adjust the paper-width guide to fit snugly against loaded paper without bending it
