Unbox and Connect Power

Remove the HP DeskJet 1110 from its packaging and place it on a flat, stable surface. Connect the power cord to the rear power connection port and plug it into a functioning outlet. Press the Power button to turn the printer on and wait for the power light to remain solid, indicating the printer is ready.

2

Install the Ink Cartridges

Open the cartridge access door on the front of the printer and wait for the print carriage to move to the center. Remove the HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges from their packaging, peel off the plastic tape, and insert each cartridge into the correct slot matching the color and icon. Press firmly until each cartridge snaps into place, then close the cartridge access door.

3

Load Paper into the Input Tray

Raise the input tray and slide the paper-width guide to the left. Insert a stack of plain white paper with the short edge down and the print side facing up, sliding it down until it stops. Slide the paper-width guide snugly against the paper edge, then lower the output tray and pull out the output tray extender to catch printed pages.

4

Install Software and Connect via USB

Insert the printer software CD into your computer or download the latest HP DeskJet 1110 software from hp.com. Follow the on-screen instructions and when prompted, select USB on the Connection Options screen, then connect the USB cable from your computer to the rear USB 2.0 port on the printer. HP recommends using a USB cable of 3 meters (10 feet) or less for best performance.

Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

USB Cable Connection

The HP DeskJet 1110 connects to your computer using a rear USB 2.0 High Speed port. Insert the printer software CD or download the driver, follow the on-screen setup, and connect the USB cable only when prompted. HP recommends a cable no longer than 3 m (10 feet) to minimize signal interference and ensure a stable connection.

No Wireless — USB Only

The HP DeskJet 1110 does not support WiFi, wireless, or network connectivity of any kind. It is designed as a direct USB-connected printer only. If you require wireless printing, consider upgrading to a model in the HP DeskJet series that supports WiFi, such as the HP DeskJet 2600 series.

Paper Jam — How to Clearexpand_more
Paper jams can occur in the input tray, output tray, cartridge access area, or inside the printer. For input or output tray jams, gently pull the paper free and press the Power button to resume. For jams in the cartridge access area, turn off the printer, open the cartridge access door, slide the carriage to the right, and carefully remove the paper. For internal jams, turn the printer off, flip it over, open the cleanout door on the bottom by pulling both tabs, remove the jammed paper, close the door until both latches snap, then turn the printer back on.
Ink Cartridge Error or Problem Detectedexpand_more
If the printer software reports a cartridge problem, first check whether it is the black or tri-color cartridge at fault. Remove the black cartridge and close the access door — if the Power button blinks rapidly, the tri-color cartridge is the problem. Swap and test similarly for the black cartridge. To fix the issue, remove the affected cartridge and verify the plastic protective tape has been fully removed, then reinsert it firmly. If the error persists, clean the gold-colored electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a dry lint-free cloth, then reinstall. Replace the cartridge if the problem continues.
Poor Print Quality — Streaks, Faded, or Missing Colorsexpand_more
Start by verifying you are using genuine HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges and that ink levels are not critically low. Check that the correct paper type and print quality settings are selected in the printer software under Print > Set Preferences. Align the ink cartridges by opening the printer software, clicking Print > Maintain Your Printer, then selecting 'Align Ink Cartridges' on the Device Services tab. If streaks persist, print a diagnostics page from the Device Reports tab and review the color boxes. If boxes show streaks or missing sections, use 'Clean Ink Cartridges' in the Device Services tab to run an automatic cleaning cycle.
Printer Not Printing or Not Respondingexpand_more
First confirm the printer is powered on and paper is loaded in the input tray. Check the printer software for any on-screen error messages and follow the instructions shown. Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable. On Windows, go to Devices and Printers, right-click the HP DeskJet 1110 icon, and verify the printer is not paused or set to offline mode. Confirm it is set as the default printer. If print jobs are stuck, restart the Print Spooler service via Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, then clear the print queue. Restart your computer as a final step if the issue persists.
Printer Shuts Off Unexpectedlyexpand_more
The HP DeskJet 1110 features Auto-Off, which automatically powers the printer down after 2 hours of inactivity to save energy. This is normal behavior and the printer must be manually restarted using the Power button. The printer also enters Sleep mode after just 5 minutes of inactivity, dimming the Power button light — it will wake automatically when a print job is sent. If the printer shuts down unexpectedly outside of these scenarios, check that the power cord is firmly connected to both the printer and a working power outlet. If the problem continues, turn the printer off and back on; if unresolved, contact HP support.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Always turn off the HP DeskJet 1110 using the Power button and wait for the light to go out before unplugging — this parks the cartridges properly and prevents the HP 65 cartridges from drying out.
  • Do not open or remove the tape from replacement HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges until you are ready to install them, as leaving the tape on reduces ink evaporation and extends shelf life.
  • If you remove a cartridge for any reason, reinstall it within 30 minutes — leaving HP 65 cartridges unprotected outside the printer can dry out the printhead and cause permanent damage.
  • Periodically align and clean the ink cartridges through the printer software (Print > Maintain Your Printer) to maintain optimal print quality and prevent buildup on the gold contact points.
