Unbox and Power On

Remove the HP DeskJet 1055 from its packaging and place it on a flat, stable surface. Connect the power cord and press the power button to turn the printer on. Wait for the printer to complete its initialization sequence before proceeding.

2

Install the Ink Cartridges

Open the cartridge door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center. Remove each HP 65 cartridge from its packaging, peel off the pink pull-tab plastic tape, and slide each cartridge firmly into its slot until it clicks into place. Close the cartridge door when both cartridges are installed.

3

Load Paper and Align Cartridges

Load letter or A4 plain white paper into the input tray, ensuring the edges are flat and the paper-width guide fits snugly. The printer will prompt you to align the cartridges after a new cartridge is installed — follow the on-screen instructions and press Start Copy Black to complete alignment.

4

Connect via USB and Install Software

Connect your HP DeskJet 1055 to your computer using a USB cable no longer than 3 metres (10 feet) as recommended by HP. Install the printer software from the HP website, then open the HP Printer Software to verify the connection and configure your print settings.

How do I improve print quality on the HP DeskJet 1055?expand_more
Start by ensuring you are using genuine HP 65 cartridges. Check the Printer Software settings to confirm the correct paper type and print quality are selected. Check estimated ink levels and replace low cartridges if needed. Align cartridges via Printer Actions > Maintenance Tasks > Align Ink Cartridges, then print a diagnostics page to check for streaks. If streaks appear, run the automatic cartridge cleaning tool found under Printer Actions > Maintenance Tasks > Clean Ink Cartridges.
How do I clear a paper jam on the HP DeskJet 1055?expand_more
Press the Cancel button first to attempt an automatic jam clearance. If that fails, check the input tray and gently pull out any jammed paper. Check the output tray, and if needed, slide the print carriage to the right to access the jam. For jams inside the printer, open the cleanout door on the bottom of the printer by pressing the tabs on both sides, remove the jammed paper, and close the door until both latches snap into place. Press Start Copy Black or Start Copy Color to resume printing.
My HP DeskJet 1055 won't print — what should I do?expand_more
Make sure the printer is turned on and paper is loaded in the input tray. Check for error messages and resolve them, then disconnect and reconnect the USB cable. Verify the printer is not paused or set to offline by going to Devices and Printers in Windows, opening the print queue, and checking the Printer menu. Ensure the DeskJet 1055 is set as the default printer. If issues persist, restart the Print Spooler service via Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, restart your computer, and clear the print queue.
Both cartridge lights are blinking on the HP DeskJet 1055 — what does it mean?expand_more
If both the tri-color and black cartridge lights are blinking and the power light is on, the pink protective tape may still be on one or both cartridges. Open the cartridge door, remove each cartridge, and confirm the pink pull-tab tape has been fully removed. Reinstall both cartridges. If both lights continue to blink, one cartridge may be defective. Remove the black cartridge and close the door — if the On light blinks, replace the tri-color cartridge; if it does not blink, replace the black cartridge.
How do I prevent paper jams on the HP DeskJet 1055?expand_more
Avoid overfilling the input tray and remove printed pages from the output tray regularly. Always load paper that is flat with no bent or torn edges, and never mix different paper sizes or types in the input tray. Adjust the paper-width guide so it fits snugly against the paper without bending it, and avoid forcing paper too far forward in the tray.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Check estimated ink levels regularly via Printer Actions > Maintenance Tasks > Estimated Ink Level tab in the HP Printer Software, and replace HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges before print quality becomes unacceptable.
  • Align ink cartridges after every new HP 65 cartridge installation by loading plain white letter or A4 paper and using the Align Ink Cartridges tool in the Printer Toolbox to ensure high-quality output.
  • Run the automatic cartridge cleaning tool if the diagnostics page shows streaks or missing ink in the color or black boxes — access this via Printer Actions > Maintenance Tasks > Clean Ink Cartridges.
  • Always use genuine HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges in the DeskJet 1055; refilled or remanufactured cartridges may cause inaccurate ink level readings and are not covered under the HP cartridge warranty.
