Product Setup

Unbox and Power On

Remove the HP DeskJet 1051 from its packaging and place it on a flat, stable surface. Connect the power cord and press the power button to turn the printer on. Wait for the printer to complete its initialization process before proceeding.

Install the Ink Cartridges

Open the cartridge door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center. Remove the HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges from their packaging, peel off the pink pull-tab plastic tape, and slide each cartridge firmly into its slot until it clicks into place. Close the cartridge door when both cartridges are installed.

Load Paper and Align Cartridges

Load letter or A4 plain white paper into the input tray and make sure the output tray is open. The printer will prompt you to align the cartridges after new cartridges are installed. Follow the on-screen instructions in the Printer Software by navigating to Printer Actions, then Maintenance Tasks, and clicking Align Ink Cartridges.

Connect via USB and Install Software

Connect the HP DeskJet 1051 to your computer using a USB cable no longer than 3 metres (10 feet) as recommended by HP. Install the printer software from the included CD or download it from hp.com/support. Once installed, set the HP DeskJet 1051 as your default printer through your operating system's Devices and Printers settings.
