HP DeskJet 1112 Manual — Setup, Troubleshooting & Ink Guide
The HP DeskJet 1112 is a compact, USB-connected color inkjet printer designed for everyday home and office printing. It delivers reliable print quality using HP 65 and HP 65XL ink cartridges with ColorLok-optimized output. This page covers setup instructions, paper loading, ink cartridge maintenance, troubleshooting, and key specifications.
Product Setup
Unbox and Connect Power
Remove the HP DeskJet 1112 from its packaging and place it on a flat, stable surface. Connect the power cord to the rear power connection port and plug it into a functioning outlet. Press the Power button and wait for the indicator light to stop blinking and remain solid, confirming the printer is ready.
Install the Ink Cartridges
Open the cartridge access door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center. Remove the HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges from their packaging, peel off the protective plastic tape, and insert each cartridge into the correct color-coded slot. Press firmly until each cartridge snaps into place, then close the access door.
Load Paper into the Input Tray
Raise the input tray and slide the paper-width guide to the left. Insert a stack of plain paper with the short edge down and the print side facing up, sliding it down until it stops. Adjust the paper-width guide snugly against the paper edge, then lower the output tray and pull out the tray extender.
Install Software and Connect via USB
Insert the HP printer software CD into your computer or download the latest driver from hp.com/support. Follow the on-screen instructions and when prompted, select USB on the Connection Options screen, then connect the USB 2.0 cable from your computer to the rear USB port on the printer. Complete the on-screen setup to begin printing.
Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.
WiFi Connection Guide
USB Cable Connection
The HP DeskJet 1112 connects to your computer using a rear USB 2.0 High Speed port. HP recommends using a USB cable no longer than 3 metres (10 feet) to minimize interference and ensure a stable connection. Install the HP printer software first before connecting the cable when prompted.
No Wireless — USB Only
The HP DeskJet 1112 does not support Wi-Fi or wireless network connectivity. It is designed exclusively as a USB-connected printer. Because wireless capability is not available on this model, the Auto-Off energy-saving feature is enabled by default, automatically powering the printer off after 2 hours of inactivity.

Important Safety Instructions
- Always turn the HP DeskJet 1112 off using the Power button and wait for the light to go out before unplugging — this prevents HP 65 cartridges from drying out.
- Do not open or remove the tape from HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges until you are ready to install them, as exposure to air causes ink to evaporate faster.
- If you remove a cartridge from the printer, reinstall it as soon as possible — cartridges left outside the printer for more than 30 minutes can suffer printhead damage.
- Align the ink cartridges after every replacement using the 'Align Ink Cartridges' option in the HP printer software toolbox to maintain optimal print quality.
