Ensure you are using genuine HP cartridges. Check print properties and select the appropriate paper type from the Media dropdown menu. If cartridges are low on ink, consider replacing them. Align cartridges by accessing Printer Software > Printer Actions > Maintenance Tasks > Align Ink Cartridges. If issues persist, print a diagnostics page and clean the cartridges automatically if streaks or missing ink portions appear in the color and black boxes.

Press the cancel button to attempt automatic jam clearing. If unsuccessful, locate and manually remove jammed paper from the input tray, output tray, or inside the printer via the cleanout door on the bottom. Do not use tools—always use caution. After removing paper, close all doors firmly and press OK on the control panel to continue. Prevent future jams by not overfilling the input tray, removing printed papers frequently, and ensuring paper edges are not bent or torn.

Verify the printer is powered on and has paper in the tray. Check for error messages and resolve them. For USB connections, disconnect and reconnect the cable; for wireless, confirm the connection is active. Ensure the printer is not paused or offline by checking Devices and Printers settings. Verify it is set as the default printer (marked with a checkmark). Restart the print spooler service through Administrative Tools > Services. Clear the print queue via the Printer menu. Download and run the HP Printing Diagnostic Utility for automated troubleshooting.

If an error message appears, try removing and reinserting the cartridges. If the issue persists, clean the cartridge contacts. Open the cartridge access door and wait for the print carriage to center. Remove the indicated cartridge and wipe only the four copper or gold-colored electrical contacts on the bottom with a dry, lint-free cloth. Also wipe the matching contacts in the printhead. Reinstall the cartridge, close the door, and check if the error has cleared. If the error message remains, turn the printer off and on again. Do not leave cartridges outside the printer longer than 30 minutes to prevent damage.

For wireless connection problems, learn how to find your network security settings and use the Network Diagnostic Utility by visiting HP's online support. Verify that firewall and antivirus programs allow printer communication during setup. To change from USB to a wireless connection, access the printer's network settings and enter your WiFi credentials. Check that your computer and printer are on the same network.
