USB Cable Setup

Connect the printer to your computer using a standard USB cable. Ensure the cable is properly seated in both the printer and computer ports for reliable communication.

Unable to Printexpand_more
Verify the printer is powered on and paper is loaded. Check for error messages and disconnect/reconnect the USB cable. Ensure the printer is not paused or offline by accessing your operating system's printer settings (Devices and Printers on Windows 7, Printers on Windows Vista/XP). Confirm the HP DeskJet 3054 is set as your default printer. If issues persist, restart the print spooler service through Administrative Tools or Services, then restart your computer. Clear the print queue through your printer settings if jobs are stuck.
Poor Print Qualityexpand_more
Ensure you are using genuine HP 65 or 65XL cartridges, as third-party cartridges may affect output quality. Check print properties in Printer Software > Printer Actions > Set Preferences and verify the correct paper type and print quality are selected. Check estimated ink levels via Printer Software > Estimated Ink Levels and replace low cartridges. Align the cartridges through Printer Software > Printer Actions > Maintenance Tasks > Align Ink Cartridges. If streaks or missing portions appear in the diagnostic page, automatically clean the cartridges using Printer Software > Printer Actions > Maintenance Tasks > Clean Ink Cartridges.
Paper Jamexpand_more
Press the cancel button to attempt automatic jam clearance. If manual removal is needed, check the input tray first and gently pull paper out. For jams in the output tray, you may need to open the carriage door and slide the print carriage to the right. For internal jams, open the cleanout door on the bottom by pressing tabs on both sides, remove jammed paper carefully, and close the door until latches snap. Press OK on the control panel to resume printing. Prevent future jams by not overfilling the input tray, using uniform paper size/type, and keeping the paper-width guide snug.
Cartridge Not Recognizedexpand_more
If cartridge lights are blinking, verify that the pink protective tape has been completely removed from both HP 65/65XL cartridges. Ensure both cartridges are fully inserted into their slots until they click. If both lights continue blinking, one or both cartridges may be defective. To identify the faulty cartridge, remove the black cartridge and close the door. If the power light blinks, replace the tri-color cartridge; if it doesn't blink, replace the black cartridge. Ensure the cartridge door is completely closed before attempting to print.
Cartridge Alignment Issuesexpand_more
The HP DeskJet 3054 automatically prompts for cartridge alignment each time a new cartridge is installed. Load a sheet of letter or A4 plain white paper, then access Printer Software > Printer Actions > Maintenance Tasks > Align Ink Cartridges. The printer will print an alignment sheet; place it print-side down on the right front corner of the glass and follow on-screen instructions. The printer remembers alignment values for reinstalled cartridges, so realignment is unnecessary if you remove and reinstall the same cartridge.
