1. Use genuine HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges
2. Check print properties for correct paper type and quality settings in Printer Software (Printer Actions > Set Preferences)
3. Check estimated ink levels and replace if low
4. Align cartridges via Printer Software (Printer Actions > Maintenance Tasks > Align Ink Cartridges)
5. Print a diagnostics page to check for streaks or missing portions in color/black boxes
6. If diagnostics show defects, clean cartridges automatically (Printer Actions > Maintenance Tasks > Clean Ink Cartridges)

First, press the cancel button to attempt automatic clearing. If manual removal is needed:

• Input tray jam: Gently pull paper from the input tray at the back
• Output tray jam: Gently pull paper from the front output tray; may need to open carriage door and slide carriage right
• Inside printer jam: Open the cleanout door on the bottom by pressing tabs on both sides, remove jammed paper, close door until latches snap

After clearing, press OK on the control panel. Do not use tools and avoid touching ink or other debris.

Prevention: Do not overfill input tray, remove printed papers frequently, keep paper flat with no bent edges, avoid mixing paper types/sizes, adjust paper-width guide snugly, and do not force paper forward.

Follow these steps in order:

1. Ensure printer is on and paper is loaded in tray
2. Check for error messages and resolve them
3. For USB connection: disconnect and reconnect cable. For wireless: confirm connection is working
4. Verify printer is not paused or offline (Devices and Printers > Printer menu)
5. Set printer as default (right-click icon, select "Set as Default Printer")
6. Restart the print spooler service (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Print Spooler > Automatic)
7. Restart your computer
8. Clear the print queue (Devices and Printers > right-click printer > Cancel all documents)

If issues persist, download the HP Printing Diagnostic Utility from the support website for automatic troubleshooting.

If error messages appear after removing and reinserting cartridges, clean the cartridge contacts:

1. Power on and open cartridge access door; wait for print carriage to center
2. Remove the cartridge indicated in the error message
3. Hold cartridge by sides with bottom pointing up and locate four small copper/gold electrical contacts
4. Wipe only the contacts with a dry swab or lint-free cloth (do not touch ink or other parts)
5. Inside the product, locate the four copper/gold pins on the printhead
6. Wipe printhead contacts with a dry swab or lint-free cloth
7. Reinstall the cartridge and close the door
8. Check if error message has cleared; if not, turn printer off then on again

Caution: Complete this process within 30 minutes to avoid damage to printhead and cartridges.
