Insert Software CD & Connect USB Cable

Insert the HP software CD into your computer's CD/DVD drive. Connect the USB cable between your printer and computer. On the desktop, open the CD and double-click HP Installer to begin the installation process.

2

Follow On-Screen Installation Instructions

Follow the on-screen prompts and any printed setup instructions that came with your HP DeskJet 3000. The software will guide you through driver installation and basic configuration. Do not disconnect the USB cable until instructed.

3

Set as Default Printer

After installation, verify your printer is set as the default printing device. In Windows 7, go to Devices and Printers; in Vista, go to Control Panel > Printers. Ensure a checkmark appears next to your HP DeskJet 3000.

4

Test Your Printer

Print a test page to verify the installation was successful. Make sure the printer is powered on (the On button will be lit green) and loaded with paper. If you cannot print, refer to the troubleshooting section below.

Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

WPS Button Setup (Recommended)

If your wireless router has a WiFi Protected Setup (WPS) button, press it during initial setup on the printer display. This establishes a secure wireless connection automatically. The blue wireless light on the printer will turn on when connected successfully.

Manual Network Configuration

Select 'Network' during software installation and temporarily connect a USB cable between your network-connected computer and the printer. You will need your wireless network name (SSID) and password (WPA or WEP). The software will guide you through each step.

Cannot Print Test Pageexpand_more
If your printer is connected via USB, verify the cable connections are secure on both the printer and computer. Ensure the printer is powered on—the On button should be lit green. If still unable to print, uninstall and reinstall the software: disconnect the printer, remove the CD, restart your computer, reinsert the software CD, and follow installation prompts without connecting the USB cable until instructed.
Printer Not Found During Software Installationexpand_more
Press the Wireless button on the printer to check network status (you may need to press twice if the printer has been idle). If an IP address appears on the printer display, it is connected. If "Not Connected" appears, select 'Print Reports' on the printer to verify network information. During software installation, choose 'Network' and temporarily connect the USB cable as prompted to establish the connection.
Wireless Connection Fails or Dropsexpand_more
Verify you have entered the correct network name (SSID) and wireless password. If using WPS, check that your router supports it. If the connection still fails, restart both the printer and router by turning them off, waiting a moment, then turning them back on. Disable your firewall temporarily to check if security software is blocking the connection. Ensure your computer is connected to the same network as the printer.
Printer Shows Offline or Disconnected in Softwareexpand_more
Cycle the power by turning off your router, printer, and computer in that order, then turn them back on starting with the router. If the problem persists, run the Network Diagnostic Utility (Start > Programs > HP > HP DeskJet 3000 J310 series > Help). Check if your computer is connected to a VPN and disable it temporarily. Ensure no firewall is blocking communication between your computer and printer on the home network.
Firewall or Security Software Issuesexpand_more
Firewalls can block printer communication. If available, enable your firewall's 'Trusted Zone' setting when connecting to your home network. Allow all HP software alerts when prompted. During installation, if your firewall shows alert messages, select options to 'Allow,' 'Permit,' or 'Unblock' HP software. Check 'Remember this action' so the firewall learns to trust HP processes. Keep your firewall updated with the latest security patches from your vendor.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Replace HP 65 or HP 65XL ink cartridges when the cartridge lights indicate low ink or a problem
  • Keep the printer powered on with the On button lit green; when off, the printer uses minimal power until the cable is fully disconnected
  • Ink is consumed during initialization and printhead servicing, which keep nozzles clear and ink flowing smoothly
  • Use only the HP-provided power adapter (model 0957-2286 or 0957-2290 depending on your region) to avoid damage
  • Ensure the printer is in a location with good wireless signal range from your router for stable network connections
