HP DeskJet 4220e Manual — Setup, Troubleshooting & WiFi Guide
The HP DeskJet 4220e is a wireless all-in-one printer designed for home and small office use, featuring print, copy, and scan capabilities with easy network connectivity. This guide covers setup instructions, WiFi configuration, cartridge installation, and troubleshooting tips to help you get the most from your printer.
Product Setup
Unpack and Position Your Printer
Remove all protective materials and tape from your HP DeskJet 4220e. Place the printer on a flat, stable surface near a power outlet and within range of your WiFi network. Allow adequate space on all sides for paper feeding and ventilation.
Install HP 65 or HP 65XL Ink Cartridges
Open the cartridge access door and rotate each cartridge so the taller end aligns with the slot, then click into place until secure. Ensure both black and color cartridges are installed before proceeding. The printer will alert you if cartridges are not properly installed.
Connect to Power and Load Paper
Plug the printer into a power outlet and load plain paper into the input tray. The printer will perform an initialization sequence. Note: Do not use USB for initial setup—the USB port has a label encouraging network connection instead.
Configure WiFi Connection
Press the Wireless button on the printer to initiate WiFi setup. Use the HP Smart app or navigate to the printer's web interface to select your network and enter your WiFi password. The wireless light will indicate connection status once setup is complete.
Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.
WiFi Connection Guide
Standard WiFi Connection
Connect your HP DeskJet 4220e to your home or office WiFi network using the Wireless button. Check the wireless light indicator on the printer to confirm connection status. If the printer is out of range, move it closer to your router.
WiFi Direct & USB Option
Use WiFi Direct to print wirelessly without a router, or connect via USB cable if needed (despite the label encouraging network use). This flexibility allows printing from multiple devices or in locations without WiFi access.
