HP DeskJet 2134 Manual — Setup, Troubleshooting & Ink Guide
The HP DeskJet 2134 is a compact all-in-one inkjet printer capable of printing, copying, and scanning in both color and black-and-white. It connects via USB and uses HP 65 / HP 65XL ink cartridges for reliable everyday performance. This page covers setup instructions, status light meanings, paper loading, ink cartridge maintenance, and troubleshooting guidance drawn directly from the official HP manual.
Product Setup
Unbox and Connect Power
Remove the HP DeskJet 2134 from its packaging and place it on a flat, stable surface. Connect the power cord to the printer and plug it into a functioning power outlet. Press the Power button to turn the printer on and wait for it to initialize.
Install the Ink Cartridges
Open the cartridge access door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center. Remove the HP 65 (or HP 65XL) cartridges from their packaging, peel off the plastic tape, and insert each cartridge into the correct color-coded slot until it snaps securely into place. Close the cartridge access door.
Load Paper and Connect via USB
Raise the input tray, slide the paper-width guide to the left, and insert a stack of plain white paper print-side up with the short edge down. Slide the guide snugly against the paper edge. Connect the included USB cable (3 m or less recommended) from the printer's rear USB 2.0 port to your computer.
Install Printer Software and Align Cartridges
Insert the printer software CD into your computer or download the latest driver from hp.com/support. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation. Once installed, open the HP printer software, navigate to Print & Scan > Maintain Your Printer, and run the Align Ink Cartridges tool for optimal print quality.
Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.
WiFi Connection Guide
USB Cable Connection
The HP DeskJet 2134 connects to your computer using a USB 2.0 High Speed cable via the rear USB port. HP recommends using a cable no longer than 3 m (10 feet) to minimize signal interference. During software installation, select 'USB' on the Connection Options screen when prompted.
No Wireless — USB Only
The HP DeskJet 2134 does not support Wi-Fi or wireless network connectivity. All printing, copying, and scanning must be performed via a direct USB connection to a computer. To add the printer to a new computer, use the 'Connect a New Printer' option in the HP printer software Utilities menu.

Important Safety Instructions
- Always turn the HP DeskJet 2134 off using the Power button and wait for the light to go out before unplugging — this prevents the HP 65 cartridges from drying out.
- Do not open or remove the plastic tape from HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges until you are ready to install them, as tape reduces ink evaporation during storage.
- If you remove a cartridge for any reason, reinstall it within 30 minutes — leaving cartridges unprotected outside the printer can damage the printhead.
- Clean the gold-colored cartridge contacts with a dry lint-free cloth if print errors persist after reinstalling cartridges, and always match each cartridge to its correct color-coded slot.
