Unbox and Connect Power

Remove the HP DeskJet 2132 from its packaging and place it on a flat, stable surface. Connect the power cord to the rear power connection port and plug it into a functioning outlet. Press the Power button to turn the printer on and wait for it to initialize.

2

Install the Ink Cartridges

Open the cartridge access door and wait for the print carriage to move to the center. Remove the HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges from their packaging, peel off the plastic tape, and insert each cartridge into the correct color-coded slot until it snaps firmly into place. Close the cartridge access door.

3

Load Paper into the Input Tray

Raise the input tray and slide the paper-width guide to the left. Insert a stack of plain white paper with the short edge down and print side facing up, sliding it down until it stops. Adjust the paper-width guide snugly against the paper edge, then lower the output tray and extend the output tray extender.

4

Install Software and Connect via USB

Insert the printer software CD into your computer or download the latest driver from hp.com. Follow the on-screen instructions and when prompted, select USB on the Connection Options screen, then connect the USB cable from your computer to the rear USB 2.0 port on the printer. Complete the software installation to begin printing.

USB Cable Connection

The HP DeskJet 2132 connects to your computer using a rear USB 2.0 High Speed port. HP recommends using a USB cable no longer than 3 metres (10 feet) to minimize interference. During software installation, select 'USB' on the Connection Options screen when prompted to establish a stable, direct connection.

No Wireless — USB Only

The HP DeskJet 2132 does not support Wi-Fi or wireless networking. It is designed exclusively for USB-connected printing, copying, and scanning. If you require wireless printing, consider upgrading to a compatible HP model that includes wireless capability, such as the HP DeskJet 2632 or HP DeskJet 3755.

Printer Won't Print — No Outputexpand_more
Make sure the printer is turned on and paper is loaded in the input tray. Check for error messages in the HP printer software and follow on-screen instructions to resolve them. Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, then verify the printer is not paused or set to offline mode via Devices and Printers in your Control Panel. If the problem persists, restart the Print Spooler service and clear the print queue, then restart your computer.
Paper Jam — Paper Stuck in Printerexpand_more
Press the Cancel button to attempt an automatic jam clearance. If unsuccessful, gently pull the jammed paper from the input tray, output tray, or cartridge access area depending on where it is stuck. For internal jams, turn the printer off, flip it over, open the cleanout door on the bottom, remove the paper, and close the door securely. Turn the printer back on and press Resume to continue printing. Avoid overfilling the input tray and never mix paper sizes or types to prevent future jams.
Ink Alert Light On — Cartridge Problemexpand_more
A solid Ink Alert light typically means a cartridge is missing, improperly installed, or low on ink. A blinking Ink Alert light indicates an incompatible, damaged, or incorrectly installed cartridge. Remove the affected HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridge, confirm all plastic tape has been removed, and firmly reinsert it into the correct slot. If the light persists, clean the gold electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a dry, lint-free cloth, then reinstall. Replace the cartridge if the error continues.
Poor Print Quality — Streaks or Faded Outputexpand_more
Start by checking estimated ink levels in the HP printer software and replace any low HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges. Ensure you are using the correct paper type setting in the print preferences. Align the ink cartridges by navigating to Print & Scan > Maintain Your Printer > Align Ink Cartridges in the HP printer software and scanning the resulting alignment page. Print a diagnostics page to identify streaking, and if needed, run the Clean Ink Cartridges function from the Device Services tab in the printer toolbox. Always use genuine HP paper for the best results.
All Lights Blinking — Printer Error Stateexpand_more
If the Resume light, Power button light, and both Ink Alert lights are all blinking simultaneously, the printer may have a scanner failure or a critical error state. Reset the printer by turning it off, unplugging the power cord, waiting one full minute, then plugging it back in and turning it on again. If the Resume light and Power button are on while both Ink Alert lights blink, check for a paper jam or a stalled print carriage and clear any obstructions. If the problem persists after a reset, contact HP support at hp.com/support.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Always turn the HP DeskJet 2132 off using the Power button and wait for the Power button light to go out before unplugging — this prevents the HP 65 cartridges from drying out and protects the printhead.
  • Do not open or remove tape from HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges until you are ready to install them immediately, as exposure to air accelerates ink evaporation and can damage the cartridge.
  • If you remove a cartridge for any reason, reinstall it within 30 minutes — leaving cartridges outside the printer longer than this risks permanent damage to the printhead or the cartridge nozzles.
  • Periodically align the ink cartridges through the HP printer software (Print & Scan > Maintain Your Printer > Align Ink Cartridges) to maintain sharp, accurate print quality, especially after installing new HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges.
