1

Unbox and Position the Printer

Remove all packaging tape and protective materials from the HP DeskJet 2331. Place the printer on a flat, stable surface near your computer and a power outlet. Make sure there is adequate clearance around the printer for paper loading and output.

2

Install the Ink Cartridges

Open the ink cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving. Insert the HP 65 black cartridge into the right slot and the HP 65 color (tri-color) cartridge into the left slot, pressing each firmly until it clicks into place. Close the access door — the Ink Alert lights on the control panel will confirm successful installation.

3

Load Paper and Connect via USB

Slide plain white paper into the input tray and adjust the paper-width guides snugly against the stack. Connect the USB cable securely between the HP DeskJet 2331 and your computer, ensuring the connection is firm at both ends. Make sure to set the printer as your default printer in your system settings for seamless printing.

4

Install Software and Print a Test Page

Download and install the latest HP DeskJet 2331 drivers from the HP support website or use the included setup guide to complete software installation. Once installed, print a test page to verify the printer is functioning correctly. You can also download the full manual PDF from HP's official server for detailed reference.

USB Wired Connection

HP Smart App Printing

Although the HP DeskJet 2331 does not feature built-in wireless networking, you can manage print jobs, check ink levels, and access printer settings using the HP Smart app on a connected computer. Install the HP Smart app alongside your USB driver for a more complete printer management experience.

Printer Not Printing — No Outputexpand_more
Make sure the USB cable connections are secure at both the printer and computer end. Verify that the HP DeskJet 2331 is set as your default printer in your operating system. Restart both the printer and your computer, then try sending the print job again.
Ink Alert Light Is On or Flashingexpand_more
The Ink Alert lights on the control panel indicate low ink levels or an ink cartridge problem. Check whether the HP 65 black or HP 65 color cartridge is low, improperly seated, or missing. Remove and reseat the cartridge firmly until it clicks, or replace it with a new genuine HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridge.
Poor Print Quality — Streaks or Faded Outputexpand_more
Streaks and faded prints on the HP DeskJet 2331 are typically caused by low ink or clogged printheads. Run the printhead cleaning utility from your HP printer software and print an alignment page afterward. If ink levels are low, replace the HP 65 cartridge with a new one or upgrade to an HP 65XL for higher-capacity printing.
Paper Jam Inside the Printerexpand_more
Turn off the HP DeskJet 2331 and carefully remove any jammed paper by pulling it gently in the direction of the paper path — avoid tearing. Check both the input tray and the rear access area for any remaining fragments. Reload paper correctly, making sure the guides are snug but not too tight, then power the printer back on.
Copy or Scan Not Workingexpand_more
If the Black Copy or Color Copy function is not responding on the HP DeskJet 2331, ensure the printer is powered on and the ink cartridges are properly installed. Check that the original document is placed correctly on the scanner glass. Reinstalling the HP printer software can also resolve scan and copy communication issues.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Regularly check the Ink Alert lights on the HP DeskJet 2331 control panel and replace HP 65 or HP 65XL cartridges before they run completely dry to avoid printhead damage.
  • Run the printhead cleaning tool from the HP printer software every few weeks if the printer sits idle for long periods, to prevent ink from drying and clogging the nozzles.
  • Keep the scanner glass clean by wiping it gently with a soft, lint-free cloth — smudges on the glass will affect copy and scan quality.
  • Only use genuine HP 65 or HP 65XL ink cartridges; using refilled or non-HP cartridges may affect print quality and could result in additional service charges not covered under HP warranty terms.
