Pro-Tip: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

usb

USB Connection

Connect the printer directly to your computer using a USB cable (recommended length is 3 meters or 10 feet or less). USB provides a stable, reliable connection for printing, scanning, and copying without network configuration.

fax

Fax Setup

Connect the supplied phone cord to the port labeled 1-LINE on the back of the printer and plug into an active analog telephone wall jack. Use the 2-EXT port only for connecting answering machines or other equipment.

Paper Jams in Input or Output Trayexpand_more
Gently pull the jammed paper out of the tray. Inspect the paper path for any foreign objects or debris. Make sure the input tray shield is in place to prevent future jams. Reload paper carefully and press OK on the control panel display to resume printing.
Print Carriage Jamexpand_more
Remove any objects blocking the print carriage. Open the front door and cartridge access door to access the carriage. Never use tools to remove jammed paper—use only gentle manual removal. For detailed instructions, select Help > How to Videos > Clear Carriage Jam from the printer display.
Poor Print Quality or Streaksexpand_more
Check ink levels using the Ink icon on the control panel. Verify you are using Original HP ink cartridges and HP recommended paper types. Run the Print Quality Report from Setup > Tools > Print Quality Report. If streaks appear, clean the cartridges via Setup > Tools > Clean Cartridges and follow on-screen instructions. Align cartridges from Setup > Tools > Align Printer.
Unable to Print or Printer Not Respondingexpand_more
Verify the printer is powered on and paper is loaded in the input tray. Check for error messages on the control panel display. For USB connections, disconnect and reconnect the cable. Verify the printer is not paused or offline in your computer's device settings. Restart the print spooler service (Windows) or the computer itself. If using Windows, run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility to diagnose connection issues automatically.
Fax Not Sending or Receivingexpand_more
First, run the Fax Test from the printer control panel (Fax > Setup > Tools > Test Fax) to verify hardware and phone line connection. Ensure the phone cord is connected to the 1-LINE port (not 2-EXT). Verify you have an active analog phone line by testing with a regular telephone. Check that Auto Answer is turned on for automatic reception. If an answering machine is on the same line, ensure the printer is set to answer after more rings than the machine. Disconnect any phone splitters and connect the printer directly to the wall jack.
